… an evolutionary perspective is essential for developing a better understanding of the links between biodiversity and human well-being. We outline the services provided by evolutionary processes, and propose a new term, "evosystem services", to refer to these many connections to humans. … "Evosystem services" provides us with a useful handle in reflecting values that are not very naturally accommodated by the concept of ecosystem services, including the capacity for future evolutionary change and the continued discovery of useful products in the vast biodiversity storehouse that has resulted from evolution in the past. In this sense, "evosystem services" and "ecosystem services" are complementary. Together, the two capture a wider variety of the values that we associate with ecosystems and biodiversity. 2, record 1, English, - evosystem%20service

1, record 1, French, - service%20%C3%A9vosyst%C3%A9mique

Recent scientific evidence suggests that evolutionary adaptive capacity(the ability to adapt to changing environments via evolutionary processes; EVAC) can actually occur over shorter time periods than originally thought and the tools to measure and predict evolutionary changes are becoming increasingly available. However, accounting for EVAC in climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning is uncommon and resource managers often make decisions without considering the potential evolution of species. 2, record 2, English, - evolutionary%20adaptive%20capacity

Most ecological and evolutionary problems have their basis in changes in the number of organisms. This is one reason why mathematics is an important tool for ecologists and evolutionary biologists. Another one is the overwhelming complexity of ecological systems. An ecosystem often contains hundreds or thousands of species that interact in a complex food web. All species are different and they change continuously... By formulating mathematical models of ecological and evolutionary processes we can to some extent study the behavior and even understand systems that are this complex. 2, record 3, English, - mathematical%20ecology

2, record 3, French, - %C3%A9cologie%20math%C3%A9matique
