The Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal was established under the Canada Agricultural Products Act(CAP) and continued under the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Act(AMP). The AMP Act assented to on December 5, 1995, establishes, as an alternative to the existing penal system and as a supplement to existing enforcement measures, a fair and efficient administrative monetary penalty system for the enforcement of the Agri-Food Acts, namely, the Health of Animals Act, Plant Protection Act, Pest Control Products Act and a few more. Pursuant to the CAP Act, the Review Tribunal has been given the power to hear two(2) types of reviews : Reviews of Board of Arbitration decisions; Reviews of various Agencies’ notices of violations. One must note that these reviews are limited to agencies who have chosen to utilize AMPs as an alternative enforcement measure.

Established plants were repeatedly tested for KMV and afterwards small plants in tubes were propagated for complete control of growth and flower characteristics. The flowering trial was set up with 10 plants of each of the 177 virus-free clones. All plants were uniform in growth and only a very few plants with a slightly lighter flower colour were observed. The best clone was selected and grown for further comparison with the existing selected Charme clone from the Danish Growers Elite Plant Station. For elimination of KMV it is recommended to give mother plants heat treatment for 2 months before excision of meristems. [From an abstract found in Dialog].

Installing an Ionics RCC Zero Liquid Discharge system was ... the needed solution to address the Jacksonville, Florida community’s environmental concerns around building the 250 MW [coal-fired cogeneration] plant. A membrane-based process (RO) was used to preconcentrate the plant’s wastewater, thus minimizing the feed volume to the Ionics RCC Evaporators. The RO product water is returned to the cooling tower for makeup and the RO reject is fed to two Ionics RCC Brine Concentrators which recover the feed as high quality distillate for additional makeup. Subsequently, the evaporator brine is concentrated in a 50 gpm Ionics RCC Crystallizer, producing dry solids for disposal. Total water recovery from the zero liquid discharge system is 98%.
