Non-exercise activity thermogenesis(NEAT) is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise. It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, performing yard work, undertaking agricultural tasks and fidgeting. Even trivial physical activities increase metabolic rate substantially and it is the cumulative impact of a multitude of exothermic actions that culminate in an individual' s daily NEAT. 3, record 2, English, - non%2Dexercise%20activity%20thermogenesis

Throughout the world, the basic oxygen furnace(BOF) produces more steel than any other process, and it is the primary steel production method in the United States. While the basic oxygen furnace is an improvement over the earlier open hearth and Bessemer processes, the vessel for converting pig iron into steel in a basic oxygen furnace is similar in design to its predecessor, the Bessemer converter. There is no heat source associated with the converter; it relies on the exothermic reaction between iron and oxygen. Therefore, a basic oxygen converter is not a furnace. However, there are some vessels that may use an additional hydrocarbon heat source. 2, record 5, English, - basic%20oxygen%20furnace

A rocket propellant consisting of a single substance, especially a liquid, capable of creating rocket thrust without the addition of a second substance. 3, record 14, English, - monopropellant
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A monopropellant is a chemical propulsion fuel which does not require a separate oxidizer. A rocket engine which is based on a monopropellant requires only one fuel line instead of a fuel and an oxidizer line. The "mono" in monopropellant means singular - a fuel that can function alone. A chemical propulsion system that combines like hydrogen and oxygen would be a bipropellant. A monopropellant burns by itself because the oxidizer is bound into the molecule itself. This makes the rocket engine lighter, less expensive, and more reliable. Monopropellant designs are typically used in control thrusters but not in actual propulsion units. 4, record 14, English, - monopropellant
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The most commonly used monopropellant is hydrazine(N2H4), a chemical which is characterized as "strongly reducing". The most common catalyst is granular alumina coated with iridium(aka. Shell-405). There is no igniter with hydrazine. Shell 405 is a spontaneous catalyst, that is, hydrazine decomposes on contact with the catalyst. The reaction is highly exothermic and produces an 1800°F(1000°C) gas that is a mixture of nitrogen, hydrogen and ammonia. Another monopropellant is hydrogen peroxide, which, when purified to 90% or higher concentration, is self-decomposing at high temperatures or when a catalyst is present. 5, record 14, English, - monopropellant

unstable : The opposite of "stable, "i. e. the chemical species concerned has a higher molar Gibbs energy than some assumed standard. The term should not be used in place of "reactive" or "transient, "although more reactive or transient species are frequently also more unstable.(Very unstable chemical species tend to undergo exothermic unimolecular decompositions. Variations in the structure of the related chemical species of this kind generally affect the energy of the transition states for these decompositions less than they affect the stability of the decomposing chemical species. Researchers at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, a facility operated for the U. S. Department of Energy, are developing novel techniques for synthesis and processing of advanced materials for energy, aerospace, and defense applications. One technique under investigation is referred to as combustion synthesis, reaction synthesis, or self-propagating high temperature synthesis. In this processing approach, powders are mixed together, so when heated they will undergo a spontaneous exothermic reaction to produce the desired compound. Advantages of the process include the use of inexpensive starting materials, less energy consumption because of lower processing temperatures and shorter processing times, and the ability to produce materials with unique microstructures and properties. 1, record 19, English, - self%2Dpropagating%20high%2Dtemperature%20synthesis

Flexible polyurethane foam has been in existence since the mid-1950s. Because of its performance characteristics it has a wide variety of uses.... It serves as cushioning in upholstered furniture and mattresses. It protects carpet by providing a resilient underlay. Automobile and airplane seats contain foam. Packaging and medical applications are also common. Flexible polyurethane foam is the product of an exothermic reaction that creates a resilient cellular matrix that can then be cut to size for its intended use. Since the late 1950's, auxiliary blowing agents have been used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam. Two main characteristics of flexible foam are density and firmness(or softness). Auxiliary blowing agents help control both of these characteristics. By vaporizing at an appropriate temperature, the auxiliary blowing agent produces additional bubble growth and, thereby, reduces the density of the foam. 3, record 22, English, - flexible%20polyurethane%20foam

Thermoset molding. Thermosetting materials can be molded on reciprocating screw machines. The screw is designed differently and the barrel is usually heated with hot water. When thermosets are molded, the heating cylinder provides just enough heat to start exothermic cross-linking chemical reactions between the two monomers. The material must be transferred quickly into the mold and cannot be permitted to cool in the cylinder. Il suffit donc de considérer les réactions de O2 et H2O sur le carbone. (...) Au total, le carbone en présence d'oxygène et vapeur d'eau est transformé en un mélange de CO, CO2, H2, H2O.
