Subject field(s)
  • Crop Protection
CONT

Targeted staggered control(TSC) has been introduced to reduce pesticide use in cotton cropping and generate an estimated benefit of... €74. 40... per cotton hectare accruing from increased productivity and reduced pesticide cost. However, TSC application requires extra time for pest identification and scouting, and its adoption remains low due to the lack of funding to boost farmers’ awareness and cover training costs.

  • Domestic Trade
OBS

The Agreement on Internal Trade(AIT) is an intergovernmental agreement signed by Canadian First Ministers that came into force in 1995. Its purpose is to foster improved interprovincial trade by addressing obstacles to the free movement of persons, goods, services and investments within Canada. The establishment of the AIT marks a significant achievement in helping to remove the existing interprovincial trade barriers, prevent the establishment of new barriers and harmonise interprovincial standards. These actions reduce extra costs to Canadian businesses by making internal trade more efficient, increasing market access for Canadian companies and facilitating work mobility for tradespeople and professionals.

OBS

CONT

The [field feeding allowance] applies when operational units must feed their members from a mobile field kitchen while on exercise or deployment. The [field feeding allowance], while on exercise, is an additional dollar amount expressed as a percentage of the national BFC [basic food cost] or the BFC of the supporting unit whichever is greater.

CONT

The [field feeding allowance] is specific to each operational unit responsible for feeding their DND[-]funded diners. The allowance varies depending on the number of diners and the number of days fresh rations will be used.

OBS

This additional amount is to provide for the extra costs of between meal beverages, night snacks and extra calories.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Pricing Theory
DEF

Fixing the selling price of additional units with reference to the marginal cost of manufacturing the unit ...

OBS

The theory of marginal pricing is that, after a company's total fixed and variable costs have been covered by the existing volume of production, the cost of producing an extra unit of production, ie marginal production, will only be the total variable cost of producing and selling that unit. In such circumstances, the selling prices of additional units could be reduced, if necessary, to match the total variable cost without any loss of profit to the company. Any amount by which the selling price exceeds the variable cost of marginal output could then be an extra or marginal contribution to the company's net profits or cash flow.

DEF

A device to save lockage water by means of providing closed storage capacity at the side/sides of a lock. This also reduces fluctuations of stage in the pools. The lock having such a provision is called "thrift lock".

CONT

During design, consideration of either adding an extra set of lower gates(to permit fractional chamber operation) or including a water-saving chamber(to permit saving a fraction of the water normally lost during emptying for use during filling) may be warranted. Neither has been feasible for CE locks. Staged-lifts(item 07) normally use less water than single-life locks at an expense in operating costs and transit time.

  • Anti-pollution Measures
CONT

For example, consider the case where the appropriate policy for pollution abatement meant that considerable extra costs were imposed on some firms or industry in a certain area with the result that their competitive position would be badly threatened(nationally or internationally) and considerable local unemployment would ensue. In such a situation many authorities would be under pressure to abstain from the appropriate anti-pollution instrument and replace it by some measure that would be less efficient, from the resource allocation point of view, such as a subsidy to the industry concerned to install less-polluting techniques of production.

The "law of increasing(relative) costs" prevails when in order to get equal extra amounts of one good, society must sacrifice ever-increasing amounts of the other good.
