Artificial corneas known as keratoprostheses were developed to manage high-risk patients by replacing the basic functions of light transmission into the eye for vision, and protection of the soft inner contents of the eyeball. Most prostheses have an optic for transmitting light and a shirt for the integration of the device into the patients’ corneas. The most successful models have been "biosynthetic" ones, which combine a biological skirt with a synthetic plastic optic. These include the osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis(OOKP) [that] uses a tooth or bone for the skirt... 1, record 1, English, - osteo%2Dodonto%2Dkeratoprosthesis

Oculoplastic surgery is specialised plastic surgery around the eyelids and face. It is also called oculo-facial surgery as the eyelids are continuous with the forehead, cheeks and deals with the related tear system(lacrimal) and orbits(deeper structures surrounding the eyeball). Surgery is primarily for abnormalities of the eyelids and their surrounding tissues, including their position and contour, in order to maintain, restore or improve function and appearance. This includes eyelid cysts and tumours, malpositions such as drooping eyelids(ptosis), staring eyes in thyroid eye disease, watering eyes and artificial(prosthetic) eyes. 3, record 19, English, - oculoplastic%20surgery
