The National Weather Service(NWS) is the official source [in the United States] of watches, warnings and advisories for hazardous weather. [Following is an explanation of] terms used by the NWS... A WARNING is issued when hazardous weather is occurring, is imminent, or has a very high probability of occurring. It is used for conditions that pose a threat to life or property.
