Any of the specialized filaments extending from the bacterial surface on whose presence in the donor cells conjugation and gene transfer depend.

It turns out that these phages adsorb specifically to certain filamentous appendages called sex pili(fimbria) which are produced by F+ and Hfr bacteria.
