... cutting on the bias is accomplished by cutting fabric at a 45-degree angle from the grain. Cutting fabric on the bias requires more fabric in order to cut all the required pieces since the fabric is cut on an angle starting from the corners.... to cut on the bias... gives garments a more natural stretch and give, and allows them to lay lighter than fabric that is cut and sewn on grain. This can be helpful for making some fabrics look more fluid and natural. Bias cutting also allows for creative use of fabric patterns, especially stripes. 1, record 2, English, - cut%20on%20the%20bias

Stitching. Directional stitching is the technique of stitching a seam or staystitching a seamline in a particular direction. Its purpose is to support the grain and to prevent the fabric from changing shape or dimension in the seam area. The need for directional stitching arises especially with curved or angled edges, or when constructing garments from loosely woven or dimensionally unstable fabrics. Stitching should be done with the grain whenever possible. 1, record 11, English, - stitching
