Rat-trap bond follows the same pattern as Flemish bond, but alternates rowlocks(the short header end of the brick turned tall) and shiners(the broad flat face of the brick). In a rat-trap bond wall, both sides of the wall look the same. Sandwiched between each side's shiner is a cavity. The name of the bond is in reference to this cavity.

Concrete blocks with a glazed face are produced for interior use. The facing may be a ceramic glaze such as is used on brick, a coating of mortar made from pure silica sand and cement paste, or a thin layer of a mixture of marble chips in plastic resin. The ceramic glaze is sprayed on the blocks, while the other two are cast in place and later ground smooth.

Through-the-wall brick is very economical for medium-rise(6-to 12-storey) structures. The easiest way to finish such walls is with polystyrene and drywall. The cost of a 100 mm brick veneer is about $71. 00/m [square]. Through-the-wall brick, because of the longer bricks, is about the same per face area of the wall.
