A cutter-loader based on the plough principle and designed to cut coal which is too hard for the ordinary plough. Two vertical blades, fitted one at each end of the machine, carry cutting picks which shear the coal from the face by an oscillating motion. The machine is hauled backward and forward along the face by a chain haulage mounted on the tail end of the conveyor. The conveyor and slicer are held up to the coal by pneumatic rams spaced along the goaf side of the conveyor. The sheared coal is forced from the face by the wedge shape of the machine and is loaded on to the armoured conveyor by means of specially shaped ramps. The machine has been designed for seams with a minimum thickness of 4 ft and has a maximum cutting depth of 14 in. 4, record 25, English, - Huwood%20slicer

Tapeless splicing is used to form face-veneer panels from several pieces. The backs and faces are glued to the cross bands and the core. The edges of the core are planed on the jointer. The core stock is edge glued and cut to panel size by a clipper machine.... All the plies are then ready to be glued into a sheet. Glue is applied to the sheets of veneer as they go through large rollers.... After the glue is applied to the cross-banded layers, core, face, and back panels, the press-gluing operation begins. The use of the giant hot press... is one of the crucial steps in the manufacture of plywood. Extreme pressure and controlled heat are used to cure(set) the adhesive.... After heating and pressing, skinner and trim saws cut the panel edges and stack the panels in one automatic operation.... 2, record 27, English, - tapeless%20splicer

Profile extrusion is similar to pipe extrusion except that the sizing mandrel is obviously not necessary. A die plate, in which an orifice of appropriate geometry has been cut, is placed on the face of the normal die assembly. The molten polymer is subjected to surface drag as it passes through the die, resulting in reduced flow through the thinner sections of the orifice. This effect is countered by altering the shape of the orifice, but often this results in a wide difference in the orifice shape from the desired extrusion profile. 2, record 29, English, - profile%20extrusion

A fabric effect formed by introducing tufts, loops, or other erect yarns on all or part of the fabric surface. Types are warp, filling, and knotted pile, or loops produced by weaving an extra set of yarns over wires that are then drawn out of the fabric. Plain wires leave uncut loops; wires with a razor-like blade produce a cut-pile surface. Pile fabric can also be made by producing a double-cloth structure woven face to face, with an extra set of yarn interlacing with each cloth alternately. The two fabrics are cut apart by a traversing knife, producing two fabrics with a cut-pile face. 3, record 32, English, - pile

4, record 39, French, - haveuse%20int%C3%A9grale

Joy presently offer both chain ripper miners and the rotary drum head-type miners introduced in 1968. However, the rotary drum head machines are proving to be the more popular and look to be superseding the chain ripper models produced by Joy. In operation the chain ripper machine works as follows. The machine is trammed forward into position then, while the main chassis of the machine remains stationary, the cutting head moves forward, sumping into the coal at the bottom of the face. The rotation of the chains carries the broken coal back over the head and deposits it on to the chain conveyor which then moves the coal to the rear end of the machine. When the sumping operation is complete, the head travels upwards towards the top of the seam, breaking out the coal as it moves. Slow-speed plows equipped with stepped knives generally cut only in one direction, the cutting run being made at speeds of 15-20 ft/min and the return being made at 30-60 ft/min. In order to maintain productivity with the slow-speed plows it is necessary to take as deep a slice as possible during the cutting run and the depth of slice may vary from 6 to 12 in., according to the hardness of the seam. The machine is hauled along the face by a 7/8 in. diameter wire rope which is wound by a 40-h. p. electrically driven winch located in the tail gate. Slow plows have been successfully used in conjunction with pre-cutting of the face but it appears that they will be superseded by rapid plows because of the greater productive capacity of the latter machines. 1, record 42, English, - slow%2Dspeed%20plow

Rabot statique d'origine. 1, record 42, French, - rabot%20statique
