Drilling and Blasting for Slope Stabilization and Geotechnical Investigations. Trim blasting is used for controlled blasts in which explosive charges are placed in predetermined pattern of holes drilled into the rock face and then detonated. Potentially unstable masses of rock can sometimes be stabilized using rock bolts and long steel rods drilled into the rock to bind it together. Drilling is a common method of investigation to obtain geotechnical reports required for engineering design.

Birdseye : 1. A generic term describing a cloth woven on a dobby loom, with a geometric pattern having a center dot ressembling a bird's eye. Originally birdseye was made of cotton and used as a diaper cloth because of its absorbent qualities, but now the weave is made from a variety of fibers or fiber blends for many different uses. 2. The interesting fact is that one of the sources of inspiration for the designers of computer-based learning environments is, as for the designers of intelligent teaching systems, the subject of artificial intelligence.

The door shall be end hung (270 degree swing). Closure shall be by the gravity lock device, which retains door in both the (270 degree) open position as well as in the (0 degree) closed position. The door will easily hold in the open position for cart loading. Door overlap (when in open position) is 3.2 inches. Hinges are fully protected by the cart’s top and base when the door is closed for transport.

CONT

There is an extremely important design consideration when constructing and installing pull-outs in a cabinet behind doors. The European hinge, that is often used, has the ability to open in less than the space it requires for door overlap. In effect, the door mounted with these hinges opens in a space less than 5/8" which puts the edge of the door slightly inside the face frame opening. While this feature is extremely beneficial, particularly when two doors are close together, it means that a pull-out will rub or hit the door. To provent this, 1" by 2" cleats are installed on the interior of the carcass, and the drawer glides are mounted to the cleats.

Just about any type of step arrangement can be designed with Allan Block. Stairs built parallel to the wall face "follow" the natural 1&1/2 inch setback of the wall. Stairs built perpendicular to the wall face will widen by 3 inches per step(to account for the setback on each side wall) as you go. Design these stairs with intermediate landings to keep stair widths consistent.

CONT

Endless stairs... Notice that the four sides of the stair walls that you may have perceived as a "rectangle" is actually not a rectangle. Opposite walls do not have the same length and adjacent walls are not orthogonal. Oversized design of the classic tennis racquet.

OBS

The term "oversize" is versatile in English. It can either be used as the abbreviated form for "oversized design(or "frame") or for "oversized racquet face". Regardless of the long form, the term "oversize" designates only one of the many categories of racquet size currently available on the market. The most popular sizes are :"oversize"(110+ sq. in.), "midplus"(96+ sq. in.), "midsize"(95 sq. in.), classic mid plus(90 sq. in.) and "classic"(85 sq. in.).

CONT

The stresses of the oversized (and mid-sized designs) were too much for wood frames to bear and soon graphite, kevlar and other space-aged materials had replaced more familiar-sounding fibres such as ash, beech and maple ... breakthrough with the oversized frame ....

French

Domaine(s)

OBS

The pilot's eye position locator is a two-way sighting device mounted below the compass on the windshield center post. It is used to locate the pilot's eyes in the design eye position for optimum runway visibility and an unobstructed view of the instrument panels. The design eye position is attained in two stages. The captain or first officer centers himself in his seat in a comfortably slumped position. He rotates his head to face the locator and uses both eyes for sighting.
