Respirators with tight-fitting facepieces must not be worn by employees who have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face-to-facepiece seal or valve function. Corrective glasses or goggles or other PPE must be worn in a manner that does not interfere with the face-to-facepiece seal. Pour tout port d'appareil de protection respiratoire nécessitant une étanchéité parfaite entre la pièce faciale et le visage, particulièrement pour les appareils à surpression, un bon rasage est nécessaire. Un seul point du visage mal rasé au contact du joint étanche peut laisser passer des contaminants. Même si les poils paraissent courts, en comparaison du diamètre des particules contaminées, ils laissent place à l'infiltration.
