The term feathering refers to the operation of rotating the blades of a propeller to an edge-to-the-wind position for the purpose of stopping the rotation of the propeller whose blades are thus feathered and to reduce drag. Therefore, a feathered blade is an approximate in-line-of-flight position, streamlined with the line of flight. Some, but not all, propellers can be feathered. Feathering is necessary when an engine fails or when it is desirable to shut off an engine in flight. The pressure of the air on the face and back of the feathered blade is equal, and the propeller will stop rotating. If it is not feathered when its engine stops driving it, the propeller will "windmill" and cause drag. 3, record 1, English, - feathering

1, record 12, Spanish, - pelota%20vasca

A Soltau Model RVS 250-AS-STS microtunneling machine with a slurry spoil removal system was selected on a lease arrangement to install the 24-in. sewer line. A mixed face cutting head configuration was selected in anticipation of the varying ground conditions. The unit is supplied with high pressure water jets which have proven effective in boring through dense clays. The RVS 250-AS-STS involves two new innovations. First, it utilizes a state-of-the-art laser guidance system coupled with a completely digital operator control panel with continuous, up-to-date information on the tunneling process. A data logger, which can record data at specific time intervals or length of pipe jacked, also provides for a permanent record of the operation. 1, record 13, English, - microtunneling%20machine

The U. S. Global Positioning System(GPS) constellation of satellites plays a major role in regional and global studies of Earth. In the face of continued growth and diversification of GPS applications, the world wide scientific community has made an effort to promote international standards for GPS data acquisition and analysis, and to deploy and operate a common comprehensive global tracking system. As part of this effort, the International GPS Service(ISGS), along with a multinational membership of organizations and agencies, provides GPS orbits, tracking data, and other high-quality GPS data and data products on line in near real time to meet the objectives of a wide range of scientific and engineering applications and studies. 1, record 24, English, - International%20GPS%20Service
