Whereas... cis and trans [are typically defined] as the presence or absence of correspondence between gender identity and gender assigned at birth,... gender modality [is defined] through 'standing in relation to’ because the all-or-nothing nature of ’correspondence’ may be too constraining for the nuances gender modality wishes to capture.... The terminology recognises the difference between, say, trans and cis women, while at the same time recognising that this difference is not one that makes trans women any less or worse women. Whereas trans and cis women have a different gender modality, they share the same gender identity : woman. Discrimination against trans people is often described as discrimination based on gender identity. A mine car that took coal miners to underground mines in Atlantic Canada.

For many years, underground mining in Cape Breton has taken place under the ocean. In order to get there, miners either take a small trolley called a rake down a slope to the mine, and eventually their work place, or they go down in an elevator called a cage, and then travel out. Viewing Distance at Computer Workstations. ... Accommodation is when the lens capsule in your eye changes shape to focus on a close object. The eyes have a default accommodation distance, called the resting point of accommodation (RPA). That is the distance at which the eyes focus when there is nothing to focus on. In total darkness our eyes are set to focus at a particular distance, so that if the lights were turned on, an object at that distance would be in clear focus. The RPA averages 30 inches for younger people and gets farther away with age.

CONT

... reading from a computer screen... Our eyes have what is called a "dark focus. "This is the point in space where your focus would be if your eyes were totally relaxed. Imagine a pitch black room. In such an environment, where you can’t see anything, your eyes are actually focusing on a fixed point in space, that is why it is called the "dark" focus. In parts of the United States, real estate is customarily sold through a process known as an escrow closing. In such a closing, the buyer and seller do not meet face to face for an exchange of documents and consideration; rather, the purchaser deposits with the escrow agent the agreed purchase price and such other documents as may be required, while the seller deposits with the escrow agent the executed deed to the property and related documents. In addition, if financing by a lender is to be provided, the mortgage or deed of trust and its related instruments are also deposited with the escrow agent. When the agent has received all of the necessary documents and cash, it will consummate the transaction and title will pass to the purchaser. In facsimile, the diode sensor array uses a stationary configuration of tiny photodiodes arranged in a matrix that equals in width one lateral scan line of a document. An original is rollerfed from a flatbed tray and passes by the sensor array one line at a time. Light is reflected from each line and focused through a lens onto the face of the photodiode array. Each diode acts as an independent photosensor in converting a small picture element into part of the total electrical signal for a scan line.

The factoring company, will not necessarily offer any other service, such as guarantee of bad debts, sales ledger accounting, etc. [Klein, Gerald. Dictionary of Banking. Pitman Publishing, 1995].

The competitive offshoot of sport climbing in which competitors, competing in UIAA events for prize money and with the backing of sponsors, attempt to scale a cliff face or an artificial climbing wall in the fastest possible time or, alternately, attempt to see who among them can climb the highest in the alloted amount of time.

OBS

The degree of difficulty in competition climbing is based on the Taquitz decimal system. The difficulty indicators range from 5.0 for the easiest climb to 5.14 for the most difficult. From 5.10 to 5.14, the difficulty indicators are further divided into A,B,C, and D (e.g. 5.10A, 5.10B etc.) with the most difficult climb in the world currently rating a 5.14C/D.

OBS

The term "competition climbing" serves to denote the competitive side of sport climbing. It is therefore a narrower concept of "sport climbing" and should be used accordingly even though the former term is still used erroneously even by professional climbers and amateur enthusiasts alike. It would appear that the term "competition climbing" has not yet taken root in the mind of rock climbers.

OBS

The term, definition and observations were provided by a technical advisor for the Ontario Rock Climbing Association (ORCA), and confirmed by a past president of ORCA.

Most of the scientific and technical problems associated with environmental impact assessment can ultimately be traced back to the natural variability inherent in many physical and biological phenomena. Natural systems, and components of them, are highly dynamic, and patchiness in space and variation over time is common. Often superimposed on random variations are seasonal fluctuations and multi-year cycles. Also, some variables may be on non-horizontal trajectories in the long term, that is, ’moving baselines. ’The field scientists involved in impact assessment face one of their greatest challenges in dealing with such dynamic environmental baselines.

Drum shearer. The shearer has two cutting wheels that can be positioned from the roof to the floor of the coal. The shearer moves on the tracks on the conveyor frame while the wheels cut and load the coal on the conveyor. After the drum shearer has gone by a section of supports the positioning cylinders are actuated, pushing the face conveyor the width of the shearer cut closer to the face. The supports are moved one at a time after the face conveyor is in its new position.
