Motonormativity is a term [that] describes a collective, largely subconscious bias towards car-based transport as the means by which people do and/or should get around. On this view, car-centricity is treated as both an "is" and an "ought" : it is simply a fact about the world(regrettable or otherwise) that we must accommodate, and/or it is a system of mobility freedom we should value and protect, or aspire to build or extend.... motonormative presumptions lead people to accept harms caused by cars that they judge unacceptable in other settings, or if caused by other means, and to temper or suspend forms of moral judgement that they apply in those other contexts. 3, record 4, English, - motonormativity

The Amsler grid is a chart that is specifically designed to qualitatively analyze the disturbances of visual function that accompany the beginning and evolution of maculopathies. The charts are a series of lined and patterned grids that test the central visual field within 10 degrees of fixation where the plates are held at 1/3 of a meter from the eyes. Each square of the grid subtends [one] degree of visual angle, making the ability to define the location of small defects rather easy.... The Amsler grid test is quick and easy to administer. The patient is instructed to look at the central dot and asked if, in fact, he/she can see it. If not, the patient may have a central scotoma, and the examiner must query the patient regarding exactly what he/she "does" see. If the patient sees the dot, the examiner asks if the patient is aware that surrounding it are numerous squares. The examiner then asks the patient if any of the squares are distorted, missing, etc. 3, record 14, English, - Amsler%20grid%20test

That means anyone previously called bankruptcy trustees, or trustees in bankruptcy, are now referred to as a licensed insolvency trustee. It's important to note that the services provided by these professionals stay the same. For all we know electrons and quarks are elementary particles, which means that in no experiment has there anything like a structure of these particles been seen. They appear point-like, unlike the proton, neutron, nucleus and atom that have sizes that can be measured. It is, of course, entirely possible that particles that are called elementary today shall turn out to be composite; let it be said though that they have been probed quite extensively.... The aim is to know all about them, their properties and their interactions. The idea is that from this nuclear physics, atomic physics, chemistry, in fact, the whole physical world derives. Thus particles and their interactions are the very fundamentals of nature. That is the view now. An elementary particle physicist studies primarily these elementary particles and not the larger structures such as protons, nuclei or atoms. 1, record 53, English, - elementary%20particle%20physicist

Purfling is a thin, double strip of wood that is inlaid into the edge of the top and back of the instrument. This may appear to be ornamental but, in fact, it serves two purposes. Structurally, purfling acts as reinforcement for the edges of the instrument preventing any severe damage from occurring at the upper and lower plates, should the edge suffer a blow. Acoustically, the groove that is cut into the plates acts as an interruption to the vibrations that are traveling through the wood. 2, record 57, English, - purfling

Two developments that had an especially important impact [on music in the 1960s] were quotation music and minimal music. The former, which involved the use of earlier music as material for new compositions, represented an idea with a long tradition in Western music. Quotation had been a standard procedure during the medieval and Renaissance eras and it persisted in occasional use throughout the common-practice period.... Quotation music of the 1960s was set apart, then, not so much by how pervasive it was(though it was certainly that) but by the fact that the borrowed material consumed such a large portion of the musical structure that its "foreign" nature was emphasized to such a marked degree.... Not uncommonly, entire compositions were made up of quotations. 2, record 58, English, - quotation%20music

Shadow banning... is a covert disciplinary measure used by social media platforms. Instead of directly informing users and content creators they’ve been banned or restricted, the networks subtly make these users’ posts invisible to others. Banned users can continue posting and interacting, oblivious to the fact that their contributions are falling on digital deaf ears. 4, record 65, English, - shadow%20banning

Blue Sky Laws... The state of Kansas, most wonderfully prolific and rich in farming products, has a large proportion of agriculturists not versed in ordinary business methods. The State was the happy hunting ground of promoters of fraudulent enterprises; in fact their frauds became so barefaced that it was stated that they would sell building lots in the blue sky in fee simple. Metonymically they became known as the blue sky merchants and the legislation intended to prevent their frauds was called blue sky law. 4, record 66, English, - blue%20sky%20law

Control banding(CB) is a technique used to guide the assessment and management of workplace risks. It is a generic technique that determines a control measure(for example dilution ventilation, engineering controls, containment, etc.) based on a range or "band" of hazards(such as skin/eye irritant, very toxic, carcinogenic, etc) and exposures(small, medium, large exposure). It is an approach that is based on two pillars; the fact that there are a limited number of control approaches, and that many problems have been met and solved before... It is an approach that focuses resources on exposure controls and describes how strictly a risk needs to be managed. 2, record 78, English, - control%20banding

The general theory of structures is based on a static calculation, which means to say that both the structure and the loads acting on it are at rest, or may simulate this condition because they act slowly. But the structure and load acting on it cannot always be deemed to be at rest, because the dynamic effect of forces may cause accelerations in it, which lead to failure. Wind and earthquakes are forces with a significant dynamic effect on bridges but it must also be borne in mind that traffic loads are moving and, in fact, the dynamic effect of these loads are taken into account via impact factors... 2, record 80, English, - traffic%20load

In fact, the speedometer always shows a higher speed than the actual speed, on all vehicles, without exception, whether it is analog or digital, for legal reasons. In the European Union, the regulations establish that the indicated speed should never be lower than the real speed with a maximum margin of error on the real speed of 10 percent... 3, record 81, English, - real%20speed

This concept is not new. What is new is the ability to automate data collection and documentation and the utilisation of this information for strategic farm management decision in the field operations through mechanisation, sensing and communication technology.... The term means different things to different people. To some, PF means using satellite, sensors and field or thematic maps. PF is in fact a comprehensive system designed to optimize agriculture production by carefully tailoring soil and crop management to fit the different conditions found in each field while maintaining environmental quality(Blackmore, et. al, 1994). 2, record 90, English, - precision%20agriculture
