Subject field(s)
  • Organization Planning
  • Emergency Management
DEF

A review of the results of mitigation, response and recovery activities following an incident in order to improve emergency management plans.

OBS

[Post-incident analysis involves] the reconstruction of an incident to assess the successive chain of events that took place during an incident and the methods used to control it, in order to determine how the actions of emergency personnel contributed to the eventual outcome and improve emergency management plans. The post-incident analysis also includes useful information on the safety and health of responders who participated in the incident response.

OBS

post-event analysis : Due to the fact that an incident requires a response, the term "post-event analysis" is improper.

OBS

post-incident analysis: term and definition standardized by Public Safety Canada and the Translation Bureau.

OBS

post-incident analysis; PIA: term and abbreviation standardized by the Canadian Capability-Based Planning Terminology Committee and the Translation Bureau.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Planification d'organisation
  • Gestion des urgences
DEF

A distinction that is offered as useful to the analysis of mistake is the distinction... between mistake in assumptions and mistake as to terms. One agreeing to buy land at a certain price, wrongly believing that minerals lie beneath the surface makes no mistake as to the terms of the contract; his mistake is as to a fact that induces him to agree.

Using a variety of modular computer systems with standard and custom software packages, services are available in support of many diverse design and manufacturing applications. A considerable amount of time can be saved by the use of computers in the design/manufacturing process. This time saving comes primarily from design prototype simulation and analysis, and also from the fact that the designer can create his design without ever having either to draw a line on paper of recreate an existing design element. Communication between CAD and CAM utilizing a common data base is desirable to reap the maximum benefits of this technology. See Computer-Aided Photomask and IC Design Services.

DEF

A low that may be completely encircled by an isobar or contour line.

OBS

Strictly, all lows are closed. However, in weather-map analysis terminology, this designation is used commonly in two respects : 1) on surface charts, to distinguish a low from a trough, especially as a low develops within the trough; and 2) on upper-level charts, to accentuate the fact that the circulation is closed, especially at levels and over latitudes where such an occurrence is unusual.

CONT

Control Moment Gyros (CMGs) are torque-generating mechanisms that incorporate a single- or double-gimbaled spinning wheels. By rotating the gimbal axes, significant torques can be generated using the property of spinning bodies called gyroscopic stiffness. CMGs are often used for spacecraft attitude control, producing torques about all three of the spacecraft’s orthogonal axes.

CONT

... although gyroscopic matrices are nonlinear, they can be written as constant matrices because of the conservation of mass and the fact that the convective components of transport velocity are constants. Therefore there is no need to update the gyroscopic inertia and gyroscopic stiffness matrix during an analysis.

CONT

Gyroscopie [...]
