2, record 1, French, - for%C3%A7age%20m%C3%A9t%C3%A9o%2Dmarin

When conducting studies and experiments, researchers pay attention to constants and variables to draw conclusions. Constants are the factors that do not change throughout the experiment, and variables are the factors that vary or have the potential to vary. While there are many different kinds of variables, the two most commonly discussed are the dependent and independent variables. … The dependent variable is the factor that receives the stimulus. Researchers measure dependent variables to explore the potential effects of the stimulus, because the aptly named dependent variable is dependent upon the stimulus to be changed. For example, in a study on the relationship between the length of a bicycle ride and the riders’ heart rate, the dependent variable is the heart rate, which the length of the bicycle ride may affect. … The independent variable is the factor altered or varied to give various amounts of the stimulus. 3, record 14, English, - dependent%20variable

2, record 14, French, - variable%20d%C3%A9pendante

The primary technique used for checking the inconsistency of precipitation data has been a double mass analysis. In this technique the accumulation at a given station is plotted against the average accumulation for a group of stations. When the number of stations in the group is reasonably large, the accumulation of the group average should be quite stable. Thus, if there is a change in the relationship between a single station and the group at some point in time, it is likely that there has been a change in the precipitation measured at that station. This deviation can be removed by multiplying a portion of the record at that station by a factor that will produce a generally straight line relationship. 2, record 21, English, - double%2Dmass%20analysis

Gas Hydrate is an ice-like crystalline solid formed from a mixture of water and natural gas, usually methane. They occur in the pore spaces of sediments, and may form cements, nodes or layers.... Gas Hydrate is found in sub-oceanic sediments in the polar regions(shallow water) and in continental slope sediments(deep water), where pressure and temperature conditions combine to make it stable.... Natural Gas Hydrate contains highly concentrated methane, which is important both as an energy resource and as a factor in global climate change. 2, record 22, English, - gas%20hydrate

2, record 22, French, - hydrate%20de%20gaz

Broadly speaking, state succession takes place when one State steps into the place of another and continues to enjoy the latter’s rights and discharge its obligations. Succession has been described as substitution plus continuation. Succession is said to be universal when one State is completely absorbed by another, ... or when a State is dismembered and the various fragments themselves become States or are annexed by surrounding States. 1, record 27, English, - state%20succession

Grading is the process of moving soil to change the form of the land. Cutting is the removal of soil and filling is the addition of soil. Shrinkage factor is the volume of soil lost after cut material is placed as fill. It is usually desirable to balance the cut and fill at a site. Exporting or importing soil is a costly operation compared to moving soil on site. The cost of moving soil at the site is about 1/6 that of importing soil and about 1/3 that of exporting soil, unless of course the export material may be sold.
