Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) is a protein produced by cells in your body. VEGF produces new blood vessels when your body needs them.... Sometimes cells can produce too much VEGF. When this happens, abnormal blood vessels can grow in your eye. These abnormal blood vessels damage your eye and harm your vision. This can lead to low vision or blindness. Anti-VEGF medicine blocks VEGF, which reduces leaking abnormal blood vessels in the retina. This slows or stops damage from the abnormal blood vessels and slows down vision loss. Sometimes it can even improve vision. Ophthalmologists use anti-VEGF medicines to treat [wet] age-related macular degeneration(AMD) ;[swelling] of the retina, called macular edema; [diabetic] retinopathy; [and retinal] vein occlusion. 6, record 1, English, - anti%2Dvascular%20endothelial%20growth%20factor%20drug

La prise en charge de la rétinopathie diabétique proliférante vise à contrôler l'ischémie et à réduire les taux de VEGF [facteur de croissance de l'endothélium vasculaire] dans l'œil de sorte que la néovascularisation involue ou régresse. These subtypes of breast cancer are generally diagnosed based upon the presence, or lack of, three "receptors" known to fuel most breast cancers : estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2). The most successful treatments for breast cancer target these receptors. Unfortunately, none of these receptors are found in women with triple negative breast cancer. In other words, a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis means that the offending tumor is estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-negative and HER2-negative, thus giving rise to the name "triple negative breast cancer. Le cancer du sein triple négatif (CSTN) est un sous-type de cancer du sein qui n’exprime pas les trois récepteurs responsables de la plupart des cancers du sein : les récepteurs d’estrogène (ER), de progestérone (PR) et le récepteur-2 du facteur de croissance épidermique humain (HER2). En raison de leur statut triple négatif, en général, les tumeurs triples négatives ne répondent pas aux traitements ciblant les récepteurs. 1, record 13, French, - cancer%20du%20sein%20triple%20n%C3%A9gatif

A number of transforming growth factors have been isolated from media conditioned by tumor cells. Two of these were purified on the basis of their synergistic actions in stimulating the growth of fibroblasts in soft agar, an assay often used as an index of cell "transformation." Since cancer cells grow in soft agar, the growth factors were first thought to be mitogens involved in tumorigenesis and were called tumor growth factors. However their main role appear to be in embryonic development and in tissue repair. 7, record 21, English, - transforming%20growth%20factor

Addition of bacterial sphingomyelinase to quiescent Swiss 3T3 cells effectively potentiated the platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF)-stimulated cell proliferation, though the enzyme by itself had little effect on the cell proliferation. Such potentiation of the cell growth could also be observed by the addition of ceramide, a product of the sphingomyelinase-catalysed reaction. In contrast, phosphocholine, another product of the enzyme reaction, had no synergistic effect on the action of PDGF. Treatment of the cells with sphingomyelinase or ceramide increased the cellular activity of mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAP kinases), which have been implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation. 1, record 31, English, - sphingomyelinase

The primary interest of this laboratory is in the mechanism of cell transformation and oncogenicity of receptor protein tyrosine kinases(RPTKs). Currently, we are studying the ros oncogene, originally discovered in an avian sarcoma virus, human insulin receptor(IR) and human insulin-like growth factor I receptor(IGFR). Molecular basis for the oncogenic activation as well as signalling transduction pathways responsible for normal and oncogenic functions of those receptor PTKs are being explored. Regulation and intervention of those oncogenic RPTKs by potential suppressor "anti-oncogene" such as protein tyrosine phosphatase(PTPase) and dominant-negative mutants of downstream signalling molecules are being inquired. Finally, potential role of those and other RPTKs in the development and progression of human malignancy, particularly breast cancer, are also being examined. 1, record 59, English, - oncogenicity

When angiogenic growth factors are produced in excess of angiogenesis inhibitors, the balance is tipped in favor of blood vessel growth. When inhibitors are present in excess of stimulators, angiogenesis is stopped. The normal, healthy body maintains a perfect balance of angiogenesis modulators. In general, angiogenesis is "turned off" by with more inhibitors being produced than stimulators. Tumors are known to express large amounts of angiogenic growth factors to recruit their own blood supply. 1, record 60, English, - angiogenic%20growth%20factor

Human acidic fibroblast growth factor(FGF) is perhaps the broadest specificity mitogen known. It stimulates a variety of cell types to divide. It also is chemotactic for many cell types(i. e. responsive cells migrate towards the source of the growth factor). Particularly responsive are vascular endothelial cells, thus FGF is also a potent angiogenic factor(causes the growth of blood vessels.). FGF plays a role in all stages of life. In embryogenesis, for example, FGF is important in organogenesis(the development of organs). In an adult, FGF is important in the wound healing process. Furthermore, aberrant regulation of FGF or its receptor(s) appears to be responsible for certain tumors within the brain and breast. 2, record 61, English, - acidic%20fibroblast%20growth%20factor

... pN acts as an antitermination factor at transcription terminators. Evidence now exists for the presence of antitermination sequences within the E. coli chromosome; for example, just past the promoter for rrnG which encodes a rRNA. Nothing is known about how antitermination works in E. coli at this point. However, this suggests that even in the absence of bacteriophage lambda, antitermination is believed to control the level of the transcripts for genes critical to cell growth. This suggests a way that lambda can commandeer the cell by using its pN to increase the levels of primase and sigma 70 for its own replication and gene expression. 2, record 66, English, - antitermination%20factor

Results of Johns Hopkins animal studies show that a natural shark substance nearly stops the growth of new blood vessels that nourish solid brain tumors. The results suggest that the substance, squalamine, named for the shark genus Squalus, may find a role with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery in treating brain cancer and other solid tumors in people, say scientists from Hopkins and Magainin Pharmaceuticals, which processes squalamine and funded the studies. Hopkins scientists added squalamine, a hormone-like chemical concentrated in the liver of the dogfish shark, and a growth factor to lab dishes containing central nervous system blood vessel cells from cows and squalamine alone to lab dishes containing human, rabbit or rat solid brain tumor cells. 2, record 67, English, - squalamine

Activin, a member of the transforming growth factor-beta family of peptides, is implicated in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation in a variety of biological systems. Recently, several mesoderm-inducing factors(MIFs) have been discovered. These cause isolated Xenopus animal caps to form mesodermal cell types such as muscle, instead of their normal fate of epidermis. The MIFs fall into two classes. One comprises members of the fibroblast growth factor(FGF) family, and the other members of the transforming growth factor type beta(TGF-beta) family. Of the latter group, the most potent is XTC-MIF, a protein produced by Xenopus XTC cells.
