An automobile... is often recycled when it reaches the end of its useful life. Flattened car hulks are fed to an automobile shredder, which is a hammer mill that tears the car apart to produce a uniformly sized supply of secondary metal about the size of baseballs. Approximately 3/4 of each car hulk is metal which is separated into ferrous and nonferrous components for recycling. 3, record 57, French, - r%C3%A9sidus%20de%20d%C3%A9chiquetage%20de%20carcasses%20de%20v%C3%A9hicules%20automobiles

In addition to extraction of the glucosinolates from RSM as a means of overcoming their toxicity, many investigators have attempted chemical alternation of the glucosinolates to destroy or remove the toxic compounds. Some have added unheated crushed rapeseed to the meal to provide a source of myrosinase, so as to autolyse the glucosinolates and liberate isothiocyanates, which are then steam volatilised. This is only partially successful since most of the isothiocyanates formed in rapeseed meal are not sufficiently volatile to flash off. Others have tried ammonia treatment and heat, cooking with soda under pressure, or treatment with ferrous salts and distillation. 3, record 61, English, - isothiocyanate

2, record 61, French, - isothiocyanate

Oxidized form of haemoglobin that is unable to bind oxygen because the ferrous atoms of the haem group have been oxidized to their ferric state. 1, record 84, English, - methaemoglobin
Record number: 84, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In the normal function of hemoglobin and myoglobin the iron atom does not undergo change in valence as oxygen is bound and lost; it remains in the Fe(II) state. However, both hemoglobin and myoglobin can be oxidized to the Fe(III), or hemin, form by oxidizing agents such as ferricyanide, with a change in color from red to brown. The respective products, which do not function reversibly as oxygen carriers, are called methemoglobin and metmyoglobin. In the cytochromes, however, the iron atom undergoes reversible changes between Fe(II) and Fe(III) forms; cytochromes serve as electron carriers, whereas hemoglobin and myoglobin act as ligand (oxygen) carriers. 3, record 84, English, - methaemoglobin

Thermochemical diffusion treatments introduce interstitial elements, such as carbon, nitrogen and boron, or combinations of carbon and nitrogen, into a ferrous metal surface at elevated temperatures. However, the processes are not confined to interstitial diffusion; metallic substitutional elements or metalloids are used in processes such as chromising, aluminising and siliconising. 1, record 97, English, - thermochemical%20diffusion%20treatment

Notice that there is no knob to set the heading of the DG [directional gyro] to match that of the compass. Why? Because it is slaved. Slaved? Back in the tailcone of the aircraft, away from all ferrous metal, is a magnetic compass. The output of this compass is electrically "enhanced" and amplified through a "flux gate"... This signal is fed to the HSI to drive the DG portion of the unit. What this means is that the reading is very accurate, not subject to the vagrancies of the regular magnetic compass, and is constantly being corrected for drift. On some aircraft, this signal is also used to slave the ADF heading card. 2, record 98, English, - corrected%20for%20drift

3, record 98, French, - corrig%C3%A9%20pour%20la%20d%C3%A9rive
