CONT

Crop rotation systems offer numerous advantages in soil structure, fertility and erosion management, as well as aiding in control of various pest species. Crop rotation for pest management consists of a planting pattern alternating susceptible and nonsusceptible crops. The interval necessary between susceptible crops depends upon the length of the pest's life cycle, reproductive potential, degree of specificity, and dispersal characteristics of the target pest.

Record 4 2016-10-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Soil Improvement and Fertilizer Management
  • Cultural Practices (Agriculture)
CONT

While having good fertility levels for a forage crop in the fall is critical for optimum production, fall fertilization is only one part of the management system to achieve this. Optimum soil test levels should be established prior to seeding and a maintenance fertilization program based on regular soil testing are the foundation of good nutrient management of forages.

CONT

A single application of fertilizer should not provide more than 1 pound of soluble nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. ... For maintenance fertilization, 4- to 6-week intervals are satisfactory.

  • Soin des cultures (Agriculture)
DEF

CONT

Cultural weed control is the management of the crop to make it more competitive against weeds. Cultural control involves optimizing planting date, seeding rate, row spacing, fertility, irrigation, and the used of adapted varieties so that the crop will be vigorously growing and more competitive with weeds. Generally, the plant that emerges first, establishes rapidly, and closes canopy first, is the most competitive. This plant captures the majority of the environmental resources(i. e. light, water, nutrients) necessary for growth. The aim should be to make vegetable crops as competitive as possible by modifying the appropriate practices.

Reproductive hazards are not taken seriously enough by management, as is evidenced by "their historical opposition to legal requirements for testing the health effects of workplace chemicals. "Also, there is a double standard applied, disregarding reproductive hazards faced by men. This has a negative result for both men an women, leaving them continually exposed to workplace conditions which can lower their fertility, cause defective sperm, or interfere with sexual functioning, while causing women to be excluded from certain work situations.
