The process of data and information gathering, risk analysis and evaluation, appraisal of options, and making, implementing and reviewing decisions to reduce, control, accept or redistribute flood risks. It is a continuous process of analysis, adjustment and adaptation of policies and actions taken to reduce flood risk(including modifying the probability of flooding and its severity as well as the vulnerability and resilience of the receptors threatened). FRM is based on the recognition that risks cannot be removed entirely, but only partially, and often at the expense of other societal goals. 2, record 1, English, - flood%20risk%20management

The frequency with which the maximum flood may be expected to occur at a site in any average interval of years. 2, record 2, English, - flood%20frequency
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Frequency analysis defines the "N-year flood" as being the flood which will, over a long period of time, be equalled or exceeded on the average once every N years. Thus the 10-yr flood would be expected to occur approximately 100 times in a period of 1, 000 yr, and of these, 10 would be expected to reach the 100-year magnitude. Sometimes expressed in terms of percentage of probability; for example, a probability of 1 percent would be a 100-yr flood; a probability of 10 percent would be a 10-yr flood. 2, record 2, English, - flood%20frequency

Flood-risk maps are the primary tool that guides the sensible use of flood-prone lands. They indicate flood-risk areas. The maps may also show the "20-year flood" and "100-year flood" levels (generally accepted terms for the statistical likelihood that every year there is a five per cent chance of the 20-year flood occurring, and a one per cent chance of the 100-year flood occurring at that location. 2, record 4, English, - one%2Din%2Done%20hundred%20year%20flood

Like other natural events, floods seem to occur in long-term cycles. Consequently, by studying streamflow records over many years, we can estimate the probability of a dangerously high flow. This can be expressed either as a percentage or as a recurrence interval. For example, we may say a flood has a one-per-cent chance of occurring in any year, or we may call it a one-in-a-hundred year flood.
