Floorhand (or roughneck). A floorhand’s work is the most physical of any on the rig. A floorhand runs the rig floor when pipe or rods are being handled, performs routine maintenance, and keeps tools and equipment clean and well organized. They are responsible for following instructions as outlined by the operator as they relate to equipment set-up and operation, and performing various well servicing operating safely and according to CenAlta procedures.

Before hoisting drill pipe, it is desirable(if possible) to pump into its top section a quantity of heavy mud, or a slug, that causes the level of the fluid in the pipe to fall; thus, when a stand of pipe is unscrewed, the drilling fluid has been emptied out of it so that the crew members and the rig floor are not contaminated with the fluid.

Landing gear visual indicators provide the flight crew with definite reference markings that can be physically checked to ascertain the position of the landing gear overcenter links while the airplane is airborne.... The main gear downlock visual indicators... are two red anodize stripes applied to each main gear downlock hinge.... The nosegear downlock visual indicators... consists of red anodize stripe applied to the upper and lower lock link assemblies at the breakover hinge point. ... a facility carrying experiment hardware for life sciences investigations aboard the first Spacelab flight to determine human response mechanisms to controlled linear accelerations in a weightless environment. A major objective is to find ways to alleviate space (motion) sickness experienced by astronauts during space missions.

In the new Sled concept, the test subject-a Spacelab crew member-is secured in a seat which in its turn is fixed to a carriage. The carriage is accelerated along a rail structure which is bolted to the Spacelab floor. The test operator, another Spacelab crew member, assists the test subject, operates the Sled and its experiment equipment and communicates with scientist investigators on earth.
