Motion moved from the floor of a meeting or conference with the object of ending discussion on the item of business in hand. If the motion is seconded and then carried, the meeting abandons the item in hand and moves immediately to the next item on the agenda. The chairman has discretion to reject a motion for next business but if he accepts it, it must be put to the vote immediately, usually without discussion.
