Infiltration flooding. After a few days of steady rain, when spring snow-melt occurs or during an extreme rainfall event, the soil around [the] home can become saturated with water. Steady snow-melt and precipitation can also raise the ground water level to a point where it is higher than [the] basement floor. This groundwater can infiltrate into basements through cracks in basement walls(or foundation walls) and cracks in basement floors. Infiltration flooding can be a significant problem in older homes where mortar has weakened over the years and cracks have developed in stone or cinder block foundations. 1, record 4, English, - infiltration%20flooding

A bodybuilding exercise performed by completing the following movements : stand in front of a barbell and, while keeping the legs slightly bent and less than a shoulder-width apart, bend over to grab the bar with an overhand grip(palms facing down or towards the body), hands slightly more than a shoulder-width apart. Keeping the arms straight and legs slightly bent, raise the barbell until you are standing straight, using only the hip and lower back muscles. Return the bar to approximately shin level between each repetition, and then to the floor after each set. 7, record 5, English, - straight%2Dleg%20deadlift

As a floor, earth can be seen as an abstract surface. If apparently level, with just enough slope for drainage, it is ready to be covered with paving, grass, ground cover, or other planting, which is necessary to prevent dust in dry weather and mud in wet weather; if sloping or irregular, earthwork may be necessary to conform to new construction or to the design plan, to provide adequate drainage, or in order to relate properly to neighbouring topography and views. 1, record 14, English, - neighbouring%20views

1, record 14, French, - vue%20sur%20le%20site%20environnant

The guns, so-called, are pressure vessels about 6 in. in diameter and 30 in. long. They are provided with a steam inlet, a bleed-off valve, and a means for heating the gun-usually by a gas flame. A charge of pellets [made from cereals] at 11 to 12% moisture is dropped into the open end of the gun from a gravity chute leading from the storage bins on the floor above. The end of the gun is sealed by a trip-valve. All valves are closed, sealing the gun. If the gun is heated by gas flames, it is slowly rotated while the temperature, and consequently the pressure, is slowly built up. The temperature may reach 500 to 800 degrees F, and the pressure at the end point may be 100 to 200 psi.... When the pressure reaches the necessary level, the end of the gun is suddenly opened by a trigger mechanism. The contents explode... into a cage or bin with a floor opening leading to a conveyor belt. 3, record 19, English, - puffing%20gun

A pocket connection is typically used when the wall below(i. e., foundation wall) continues to the story above the floor level without a change in wall thickness. The pocket connection consists of a void or "pocket" created in the wall by changing block placement or cutting into the block units after the walk is erected. The bearing surface on which the joists(or girders) bear typically is grouted solid creating a horizontal reinforced bond beam that ties together the walls in the story below. Light-frame builders may not be familiar with ledger and pocket connections. Such connections typically do not find much use in light-frame construction. However, ledger and pocket connections are not new to the building industry. For example, wood floor-to-masonry ledger and pocket connections were used in the United States during the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s in residential masonry homes and continue to perform satisfactorily. 6, record 34, English, - blockout

"Pingo-like features" are similar in shape and size to pingos on land, but are found underwater, on the continental shelf in several parts of the Arctic. Figure 6. 1 illustrates a typical open disposal trench at the Barnwell facility. The trench floor is sloped slightly and covered with a layer of sand to facilitate collection of percolating water in a French drain. A number of pipes allow any water that may collect in the French drain to be removed and analyzed. Presently waste, primarily in boxes, drums and cask liners, is stacked neatly in the trench... As the level of the waste reaches the design level, 2 m below grade, a layer of dry soil is added and allowed to filter down between the waste containers. When a trench is filled, it is covered with a cap of at least 0. 6 m of compacted native clay, followed by at least 0. 9 m of soil. The cap is graded to shed water and seeded with grass. The sump in each trench is monitored for at least 5 years and any subsidence in the cap is filled to maintain its water-shedding ability. Monitoring wells at the perimeter of the facility have not detected migration of nuclides after more than 15 years of operation. 4, record 38, English, - monitoring%20well

Magelhaens is a lunar crater that lies along the southwestern edge of the Mare Fecunditatis, in the eastern part of the Moon's near side. It lies to the south-southwest of Goclenius crater, about midway between Gutenberg crater to the northwest and Colombo crater to the southeast. This crater has a somewhat slender and uneven outer rim that is only roughly circular. The somewhat smaller satellite crater ’Magelhaens A’ is attached to the southeastern rim. Within the inner walls of Magelhaens, the interior floor has been resurfaced by basaltic-lava, matching the same dark appearance as the lunar mare to the northeast. This floor is level and almost featureless. 1, record 49, English, - crater%20Magelhaens

A list of all the important formation tops picked in the well by the petroleum geologist. Notice there are two numbers for each top. The first number is the actual measured depth in feet from a fixed elevation reference point on the rig(usually the KB, or Kelly Bushing, which is located about 1 feet above the derrick floor). The second number has a minus(-) sign in front of it. This is the calculated depth of the formation top in relation to the permanent datum, which is usually sea level. Elements of the building envelope are the exterior walls(including windows and doors), the roof and the floor of the lowest level of the building. The building envelope has a number of functions : it holds the building up; it keeps the rain and ground water out; it keeps the wind out; it keeps water vapour out; and it controls the transfer of energy(heat) between the inside and the outside. One material may control only one of these functions or may control several functions at once. 11, record 60, English, - building%20envelope

On the Internet, approximately 25 sources out of 30 give "building envelope" and "building shell" as synonyms without restrictions of any kind; 5 sources out of 30 use the formulation "sometimes referred to as ...". Other sources define "building shell" as "The skeleton of a building to which the finished exterior and interior are applied. It includes the building foundation", which refers to a completely different concept. We conclude that for a majority of authors the two terms may be used as synonyms and that for some others "building shell" refers to the skeleton (structure) rather than the envelope of the building. 12, record 60, English, - building%20envelope

A trade name for a heavy caterpillar-mounted continuous miner for operation in thick seams. The front end contains two cutter-arms which rotate in opposite directions to sweep the coal they cut inwards towards the centre. The broken coal is taken back through the machine to a chain conveyor. Two cutter chains are arranged at roof and floor level behind the arms to cut down the coal left between the rotating arms. The machine cuts an area 12 ft wide and 7 ft high. Power is supplied by two motors, one of 70 h. p. and the other 25 h. p. It has a continuous capacity from 3 to 3 1/2 t. p. m. 1, record 75, French, - Marietta

Figure 6. 1 illustrates a typical open disposal trench at the Barnwell facility. The trench floor is sloped slightly and covered with a layer of sand to facilitate collection of percolating water in a french drain. A number of pipes allow any water that may collect in the french drain to be removed and analyzed. Presently waste, primarily in boxes, drums and cask liners, is stacked neatly in the trench, starting at the high end and progressing toward the low end. High specific activity waste is usually placed at the bottom of the trench. A separate narrower shielded trench is used at Barnwell for waste that has very high dose rates at the package surface. As the level of the waste reaches the design level, 2 m below grade, a layer of dry soil is added and allowed to filter down between the waste containers. When a trench is filled, it is covered with a cap of at least 0. 6 m of compacted native clay, followed by at least 0. 9 m of soil. 2, record 82, English, - open%20storage%20trench
