Infiltration flooding. After a few days of steady rain, when spring snow-melt occurs or during an extreme rainfall event, the soil around [the] home can become saturated with water. Steady snow-melt and precipitation can also raise the ground water level to a point where it is higher than [the] basement floor. This groundwater can infiltrate into basements through cracks in basement walls(or foundation walls) and cracks in basement floors. Infiltration flooding can be a significant problem in older homes where mortar has weakened over the years and cracks have developed in stone or cinder block foundations.

Puffed cereal products are prepared by placing the material in pressure cookers or puffing guns.

The contents explode... into a cage or bin with a floor opening leading to a conveyor belt.

This crater has a somewhat slender and uneven outer rim that is only roughly circular. The somewhat smaller satellite crater ’Magelhaens A’ is attached to the southeastern rim. Within the inner walls of Magelhaens, the interior floor has been resurfaced by basaltic-lava, matching the same dark appearance as the lunar mare to the northeast. This floor is level and almost featureless.

A list of all the important formation tops picked in the well by the petroleum geologist. Notice there are two numbers for each top. The first number is the actual measured depth in feet from a fixed elevation reference point on the rig(usually the KB, or Kelly Bushing, which is located about 1 feet above the derrick floor). The second number has a minus(-) sign in front of it. This is the calculated depth of the formation top in relation to the permanent datum, which is usually sea level. This type of top is known as a "subsea" top. Subsea tops can be easily compared to each other because they are all adjusted to the same elevation reference.

Figure 6. 1 illustrates a typical open disposal trench at the Barnwell facility. The trench floor is sloped slightly and covered with a layer of sand to facilitate collection of percolating water in a french drain. A number of pipes allow any water that may collect in the french drain to be removed and analyzed. Presently waste, primarily in boxes, drums and cask liners, is stacked neatly in the trench, starting at the high end and progressing toward the low end. High specific activity waste is usually placed at the bottom of the trench. A separate narrower shielded trench is used at Barnwell for waste that has very high dose rates at the package surface. As the level of the waste reaches the design level, 2 m below grade, a layer of dry soil is added and allowed to filter down between the waste containers. When a trench is filled, it is covered with a cap of at least 0. 6 m of compacted native clay, followed by at least 0. 9 m of soil.

High level palletizers ... pick up the product at a level above the height of a full pallet and form the tier pattern on a bed. The pallet is raised to the bed level, and the product is transferred ... to the pallet. The low level palletizer operates at floor level. The pallet is neither raised or lowered, and the tier is formed at low level. The transfer bed or apron is raised or lowered to the appropriate level and the tier is transferred to the pallet. The bed returns to the tier-forming position, and the next layer is formed. This is repeated until the pallet is full. After the full pallet is discharged, an empty one is transferred into the load station, and the process is repeated.

The oxidation ditch in northern climates is an indoor continuous concrete channel, usually shaped like a racetrack and located beneath the slotted floor sections of the pens. Most ditches are operated on a continuous flow basis where the ditch is kept full to the level of an overflow sluice gate. An aeration device(or devices) located within the central one third of the straight section of the ditch, adds oxygen from the air and mixes the liquid, called mixed liquor, passes over the sluice gate into a storage structure.
