Here's how to do the perfect pike push-up... Start in a plank position on the floor, with hands firmly on the floor, right under your shoulders. Press toes firmly into the floor too.... Lift hips up and back until your body forms an inverted V shape.... Start to bend elbows, and then lower your entire upper body toward the floor. Stay there for a moment, then slowly push back up until your arms are straight and you’re in the inverted V position.

  • Weightlifting
DEF

An Olympic weightlifting lift and bodybuilding exercise performed in two parts : the bar is raised from the floor to the shoulders(the clean), then from the shoulders above the head until both arms are straight, using the strength of both the arms and the legs at the same time(the jerk).

CONT

Genny Caterina Pagliaro was already fourth at the junior world championships earlier this year and with a snatch of 75 kg and a jerk of 85 kg she left the other lifters in Dortmund far behind. This snatch result would have given her even a medal in the European Senior championships!

OBS

In weightlifting, the term "jerk" means the second movement executed in the "clean and jerk," but it is also a short form used in reference to the entire exercise, the "clean and jerk."

DEF

The rack deadlift is a partial version of the conventional deadlift. You perform it inside a power rack with pins set so that the bar is located just above the knees. It is an excellent exercise for beginners–you don’t have to use a full ROM [range of movement], and having the rack is like using a spotter. Deadlifts from a racked position emphasize your low back muscles, because you won’t be bending as low and thereby incorporating your legs. Use this exercise to help strengthen the low back specifically or if you want to attempt heavier weights than you can lift from the floor.

CONT

Begin this exercise using a shoulder-width stance with the arms just outside the thighs. Using an overhand grip, bend the knees slightly to grasp the bar. Inhale. Exhale as you pull the weight off the pins, keeping the back flat, the abs tight, the head up, and the weights close to the body. Don’t bounce the bar off the pins in the rack.

How to perform the Smith machine deadlift. First, set up the Smith bar on the floor with the desired weight you want to lift. Walk up to the bar so that your shins are directly against the Smith bar. Squat down towards the bar until your upper thigh is parallel to the floor. Next, grab the bar with a mixed grip with one hand overhand and one hand underhand. Now, drive your hips upward by contracting your quads and glutes. You are attempting to bring the weight upwards as you stand up. As the bar is being lifted off of the floor, begin to straighten your back up so that it is fully erect. This will utilize the muscles in the back. Once your have reached full standing position, slowly lower the weight back toward the floor.

Stand with feet slightly wider than hip width apart and toes pointing out slightly. Squat down and grasp bar with a closed, pronated grip.... First pull phase :lift bar from floor by forcefully extending hips and knees.... Keep elbows fully extended(straight), head in a neutral position and shoulders over the bar. As bar raises, keep it as close to shins as possible. Transition(scoop) phase : as bar passes knees, thrust hips forward and slightly re-flex knees to avoid locking them.... Second pull phase : Forcefully and quickly extend hips and knees and plantar-flex ankles(stand on toes). Keep bar as close to body as possible.... Keep shoulders over bar and elbows extended(arms straight) as long as possible. When lower body joints reach full extension, rapidly shrug the shoulders upward, but do not let elbows flex yet. As shoulders reach their highest elevation, flex elbows to begin pulling body under bar. Continue to pull arms as high and as long as possible.... feet may lose contact with floor. Catch phase : after lower body has fully extended and bar reaches near maximal height, pull body under bar and rotate arms around and under bar. Simultaneously, hips and knees flex into a quarter squat position. Once arms are under bar, lift elbows to position the upper arms parallel to floor. Rack the bar across front of clavicles(collar bones) and anterior deltoids(front shoulder muscles).... Stand up by extending hips and knees to a fully erect position. Downward movement phase : lower bar by gradually reducing muscular tension of arms to allow a controlled descent of the bar to the thighs.... Squat down with the elbows fully extended until the bar touches the floor.

... the height to which the forks can lift without elevating the mast.

CONT

[Fork Truck Construction.] An important operational aspect of mast assemblies is freelift. Freelift is defined as the vertical distance forks can raise above the floor before the mast begins to extend from its collapsed height.

CONT

[Lift trucks. ] "Free lift" is the amount of movement the carriage can make before the cylinder yoke starts lifting the mast. A standard upright usually has just enough free lift to raise the load off the floor so the truck can go through a doorway without the top of the mast striking the door.

OBS

The amount of freelift available is dependent on the mast and truck design. Freelift may range from only a few inches on some models to over 60 in. (1500 mm) on the man-up turret truck. Most manufacturers offer trucks with either standard or "high" freelift available.
