The tool stanchion primarily serves as a temporary storage for EVA [Extra-Vehicular Activity] tools and equipment. The tool head is designed to hold up to four single-sided or two double-sided tool boards. Four bayonet fitting receptacles can be used to hold tools, and two EVA changeout mechanism sockets mounted on top of the tool head can be used to store ORUs [Orbital Replaceable Units]. The TERA [Temporary Equipment Restraint Aid] is equipped with a grapple fixture which allows for interfacing with the station(and shuttle) RMS [Remote Manipulator System] and which provides a restraint for a single ORU [Orbital Replaceable Unit] and its supporting cargo subcarrier. The TERA serves as well as a mounting location for the APRF [Articulating Portable Foot Restraint]. A second ORU can be stored temporarily on the TERA by using a ball stack or an ORU tether installed on the side-mounted EVA [Extra-Vehicular Activity] changeout mechanism socket. The APFR [Articulating Portable Foot Restraint] secures a crew member's feet and allows the astronaut to adjust his body position at a work site. The APFR has three independent joints that are activated by EVA astronauts. Yaw and roll are controlled by foot pedals. The APFR can yaw 360 degrees and can roll 180 degrees. Pitch is controlled by a know at the base of the APFR. The APFR and pitch 180 degrees. The APFR may be used either as the core unit of the PWP(in conjunction with the TERA and tool stanchion) or as a stand-alone unit.
