English

Subject field(s)
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
DEF

The pressure acting on a point in the piping system with no flow from the system.

CONT

Static pressure is stored potential energy that is available to force water through mains, valves, hydrants, and fire hose.

OBS

Usually expressed as pounds per square inch or pascals.

OBS

static pressure: designation and definition officially approved by the Engineering Terminology Working Group and designation officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des fluides et hydraulique (Physique)
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Production
CONT

... "utility corridor" means an underground or burried utility line or pipe, including any excavated and subsequently backfilled trench that the line or pipe was constructed or laid in... Utility corridors include, but aren’t limited to : sanitary and storm sewers, water lines, gas lines, sewer force mains, buried electric power distribution lines and buried telephone, cable TV or telecommunication lines. Utility corridors are present in public right of ways, including streets or roads, as well as on the properties being served by the utilities.

CONT

At an oil sands mining operation, land is disturbed during exploration and development of the open pit because surface vegetation and tree cover, topsoil, muskeg, sand, clay and gravel are removed. The construction of the plant and support infrastructure, such as roads and utility corridors further disturbs the land.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sewers and Drainage
CONT

BIo-organic catalysts are effective in controlling odors and grease in lift stations, force mains and gravity mains by preventing the production of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and mercaptan and by substantially minimizing existing odors... Bio-organic catalysts rapidly degrade the slime layer and grease build-up inside collection system pipes and receiving basins. This removes the barrier that protects anaerobic organisms, limiting their activity.

Key term(s)
  • greases

French

Domaine(s)
  • Égouts et drainage
DEF

Ensemble des matières grasses, des cires, des acides gras libres, des savons de magnésium et de calcium, des huiles minérales et des substances qui flottent en surface dans les eaux d'égout.

CONT

CONT

... sewage from pressure or vacuum sewer systems.

CONT

For force mains(pressure sewers), velocity is the primary design factor...
