The Brandon Humane Society has been in operation since 1946 when it was founded by Eleanor Kidd. She originally housed the shelter in her garage on 13th Street, then in an abandoned stable near Empress Bay, and later in an old barn near the riverbank where Eleanor Kidd Gardens are now located. In 1997, the shelter moved to its new premises at 2200 17th Street East. These days, our residents-both cats and dogs-live in a comfortable building with heat and air conditioning, two large exercise yards, an enclosed cat patio, and enough kennels for 20 cats and 13 dogs. When our kennels are full, our dedicated volunteers foster animals in their own homes. Since this is a no-kill shelter, the atmosphere is very positive... our animals are loved and well cared for as they wait to be adopted. We invite you to come visit us and see for yourself! Our Mandate. The Brandon Humane Society's constitution states that the Society :-has the primary purpose of providing aid and assistance to companion animals,-will accept unwanted companion animals into the shelter when space is available,-will make every effort to find homes for animals in our care,-and will educate the public on companion animal needs, especially the importance of sterilization.

They now try holding troubled families together instead of pulling them apart. In Michigan, a new family-preservation effort called Families First relies on intensive intervention by case managers.... Over 80% of the 2, 400 families who have participated in Families First are still together. In the 18 Michigan counties that have the program, new foster care placements have fallen 10%, compared with a 28% increase in those where the approach has yet to be tried.

Supervised care of not more than five children under 14 years of age in a private residence (other than the home of the majority of them) for a continuous period not exceeding 24 hours; all other home arrangements are referred to as private neighborhood day care arrangements.

OBS

Family day care, which supplements the care of parents who retain their responsibilities, should not be confused with foster family care, which substitutes for parental care. In foster family care, the agency assumes responsibility for custody of the child; in family day care, the child's parents, the agency, and the day care mother share responsibility for the child's daily care.

Ces formules de garde se distinguent des garderies parce qu'elles regroupent un nombre inférieur d'enfants dans un contexte familial, donc dans des résidences ou des logements familiaux.
