Correctional Service of Canada. The objective of the Mother-child Program is to provide mechanisms that foster and promote stability and continuity for the child in its relationship with its mother. The best interests of the child, including the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of the child is the primary consideration in decisions relating to participation in the Mother-child Program. The program was piloted at the Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge in July 1996 and full-time implementation began at Okimaw Ohci in 1997. Regional institutions have begun gradual implementation in 1998.
