The best interests of the child, including the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of the child is the primary consideration in decisions relating to participation in the Mother-child Program. The program was piloted at the Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge in July 1996 and full-time implementation began at Okimaw Ohci in 1997. Regional institutions have begun gradual implementation in 1998.
