Fouling causes a loss in the activity of immobilized biocatalysts. This is due to the deposition of solid or colloidal materials(originally suspended in the substrate, around, or in, the pores of the support) preventing access of substrate to the enzyme.... Physical fouling by insoluble debris, fats, microbial activity or synthetic side reactions of the enzymes producing ’polymers’ can be particular problems with porous supports. This is because the availability of the enzyme can be quickly reduced by even limited blockage of the pore structure. 2, record 15, English, - fouling

Columns can be operated in an expanded bed form at higher flow rates, so preventing fouling and compression and improving mass transfer. Alternatively packed biocatalyst particles can be used in a trickle-flow mode as in some waste-water processes employing microbial flocs.... Packed columns allow a high concentration of biocatalyst to be used. The product molecules or other inhibitors produced during the reaction are constantly swept out of the reactor so that the concentration of products are minimized-so less product inhibition occurs.... The decay of enzyme columns packed with immobilized enzyme or immobilized microbial cells generally proceeds in an exponential pattern related to operating time. 2, record 25, English, - enzyme%20column

BARNAKIL Electronic Antifouling system. BARNAKIL is a system for inhibiting the attachment of barnacles and other aquatic life forms to near-surface underwater structures, such as boat hulls, thereby saving fuel and maintenance costs. The BARNAKIL system consists of up to 16 individual audio frequency electromagnetic transducers (resonators) distributed over the interior of the boat hull, microprocessor-controlled from a water resistant central unit. BARNAKIL virtually eliminates the accumulation of barnacles and mussels. Dramatic reductions in the attachment of algae and slime have been achieved. 1, record 34, English, - electronic%20antifouling%20system

In the clear resin film tests of the zinc acrylate copolymer, molecular weight did not greatly affect the dissolution rate... As expected from the dissolution rate of the copolymer itself, anti-fouling paints formulated with various zinc acrylate copolymers were found to have erosion rates mainly dependent on function group concentration and hydrophilicity of the resin polymer... The surface profile of the zinc acrylate anti-fouling, observed by laser microscopy, was also found to be similar to SPC AF [self-polishing anti-fouling] and smoother than other tin-free anti-fouling paints... 1, record 38, English, - zinc%20acrylate%20anti%2Dfouling

Are all metal acrylate TBT [tributyltin] free SPC antifoulings the same? No. There are two types of metal acrylate antifoulings. The first type are the copper acrylate ... systems. The second type are the zinc acrylate systems. Although the biocides used in these two antifouling systems are essentially the same with the predominant biocide in both systems being copper oxide, copper complexes are more tightly bound and stable in seawater than zinc complexes. In the presence of the copper oxide biocide, zinc acrylate systems (in our experience) may undergo chemical exchange reactions with the copper oxide biocide. Copper acrylate systems do not undergo this exchange. The stability, longevity and performance of the copper acrylate ... systems can therefore be expected to be greater than that of typical zinc acrylate deep sea systems. 3, record 38, English, - zinc%20acrylate%20anti%2Dfouling

The most common plant fouling on ships is the brown algae Ectocarpus spp. and the green algae Enteromorpha spp., often referred to as sea grass due to its similar appearance and colour. Polycellular algae begins with the settlement of microscopic spores. These spores can settle in seconds and colonise a submerged surface within hours. Plant fouling usually occurs where there is available sunlight, i. e. around the water line and a few metres below. Marine biofilm : how quickly does it form? Immediately, when a surface is immersed in the sea, a conditioning film of organic molecules forms. This begins after a few seconds of immersion and is considered as molecular fouling. In the hours and days that follow, bacteria colonise the surface and micro colonies occur. These colonies spread outwards and upwards to form irregular structures. At this stage other microfouling appear, e. g. microalgae and fungi... The biofilm then matures and new species enter and grow, organic and inorganic debris is incorporated and solute gradients develop leading to a special heterogeneity. At this point three things can occur : The biofilm may slough off due the hydrodynamics of the environment; Organisms may begin to graze on the biofilm; Larger organisms such as algae and molluscs may establish on it, this is macrofouling. 4, record 42, English, - microfouling

For microgroove recordings(16-2/3, 33-1/3 and 45 rpm), the recommended cutting stylus tip radius is. 00025 inch or less, and for coarse groove recordings(33-1/3 rpm transcriptions and 78 rpm) the recommended radius is. 0015 inch. You can see why a 78 played with an LP stylus sounds so bad! For coarse groove recording, the stylus was often mounted with a slight mechanical bias toward the center of the record. This ensured the thread of cut lacquer material or "chip" would be thrown toward the center of the disc thus avoiding fouling the stylus tip. 2, record 45, English, - chip

3, record 47, French, - organismes%20fix%C3%A9s

Backward curved and backward inclined blade fans. Backward curved and backward inclined blades are slightly less efficient, cost less, and generate slightly more noise than the airfoil type. The number of blades is usually ten to sixteen and the fan scroll is the same as for airfoil fans. Backward curved blades... are constant thickness airfoil blades and are preferred over straight backward inclined blades... because they allow smoother air flow and are stronger. Backward curved blade fans will operate over the full range of air flow from wide open to shut off, whereas backward inclined blade fans are unstable under flow condition below the design point. 2, record 54, French, - ventilateur%20%C3%A0%20r%C3%A9action
