The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, built in 1964 to commemorate the centenary of the Charlottetown Conference(1-9 September 1864), was the inspiration behind the founding of the Charlottetown Summer Festival [often designated "Charlottetown Festival"]. A summer festival of Canadian performers organized by Mayor Moore to celebrate the opening of the Centre was so successful that Moore was retained as the first artistic director of an annual event dedicated to the encouragement of Canadian writers and performers.  2, record 1, English, - %20The%20Charlottetown%20Festival

The Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education(CAPDHHE) was founded in 2000. CAPDHHE evolved from Canadian Association Against Sexual Harassment in Higher Education(CAASHHE). CAASHHE itself evolved from the Natonal Conference on Sexual Harassment Association(NCOSHA), which was founded in 1984 to provide an annual conference concerning sexual harassment in institutions of higher education in Canada. The founding institutions were the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta and York University. In 1999 it was recognized that many members were addressing various forms of discrimination and harassment and the mandate of the association needed to be expanded. CAPDHHE was founded to express that larger mandate. L'Association a été fondée en 2000 et s'est développée à partir de l'Association canadienne contre le harcèlement sexuel en milieu d'éducation supérieure (ACCHSES); celle-ci, de son côté a été créée à partir de la Conférence nationale sur le harcèlement sexuel (CNHS), fondée en 1984 dans le dessein spécifique d'organiser une conférence annuelle sur le harcèlement sexuel dans les institutions d'éducation supérieure au Canada. Les institutions fondatrices étaient les Universités de Calgary et de l'Alberta et l'Université York. En 1999, nous avons constaté que plusieurs membres devaient s'adresser à des types de discrimination et de harcèlement fort variés et que, pour cette raison, nous avions besoin d'élargir le mandat de l'association. Pursuant to various resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, the Organization of African Unity, the Conference of Ministers of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa(UNECA), between 1980 and 1989 and the supportive decisions by the United Nations Congresses on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, the idea of founding the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders(UNAFRI) was realized. The Statute for its establishment was adopted in April, 1989 by the Conference of Ministers of ECA.
