CONT

Excessive drag was pointed out in a 1976 NASA report on flight-tests of the YF-17, and some profiling changes, notably in the aft fuselage, have been made in the F-18 by McDonnell Douglas.

OBS

CONT

DEF

The part of a fuselage projecting in front.

CONT

Production of the Alpha Jet is split into approximately equal national shares and there is no duplicated construction of any individual part. The work is divided as follows: Dassault-Breguet - forward fuselage, fuselage assembly ... Dornier - rear fuselage, wings, tail unit, engine inlets ...

OBS

The shock strut of the nose wheel pair is ... folded upwards and forwards during flight into the nose section.

DEF

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Airframe
DEF

The rear part of a body, as of an aircraft, a rocket, etc.

OBS

The aircraft fuselage generally consists of three sections : The nose section, the center section and the rear section. The term "tail section" designates the rear section of the fuselage. However, the term "tail" is often used in a more general sense, without any reference to the fuselage sections.

French

Domaine(s)

OBS

Subject field(s)

CONT

The empennage is also called the tail section and most aircraft designs consist of a tail cone, fixed surfaces, and movable surfaces. The tail cone serves to close and streamline the aft end of most fuselages. The cone is made up of structural members like those of the fuselage; however, cones are usually of lighter construction since they receive less stress than the fuselage.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cellule d'aéronefs
CONT

A compression rib at the root of an aerofoil, or at the point of attachment to the centre section of a wing.

CONT

The wing butt rib is normally the heavily stressed rib section at the inboard end of the wing near the attachment point to the fuselage. Depending on its location and method of attachment, a butt rib may be called a bulkhead rib or a compression rib, if it is designed to receive compression loads that tend to force the wing spars together.
