La face dorsale du céphalon [d'un Trilobite] peut montrer, dans la région périglabellaire, un système complexe de rides fines, plus ou moins serrées et anastomosées, à disposition rayonnante [...], désignées sous le nom de «caecums génaux» [...]; ils sont plus particulièrement nets sur les moules internes et représentent certainement des impressions de viscères céphaliques très ramifiés et terminés en cul-de-sac, d'où leur nom. Les cæcums génaux sont en général surtout développés sur la région frontale et les librigènes, mais on peut les observer en d'autres régions des joues.
