To support the Gender Equality Initiative and help co-ordinate work related to gender equality across the Department, the office of the Senior Advisor has begun a program to broaden Department-wide expertise and understanding of gender equality analysis, through education and the development of analytical approaches. The Advisor is supported by a network of over 50 gender equality specialists who ensure the application of gender equality analysis in their fields. The Advisor also benefits from the contribution of the Advisory Committee on Gender Equality on issues relating to raising awareness in the Department regarding gender equality. The new Policy of the Department of Justice on Gender Equality Analysis was released in June, 1997.
