DEF

[A mutation in a cancer cell genome] that [does] not confer growth advantage, but happened to be present in an ancestor of the cancer cell when it acquired one of its drivers.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

An individual that consists of two or more cell lineages differing with respect to their idiotype, chromosome structure, or chromosome number (mixoploid).

OBS

Its different sectors may result from the mutation of chromosomal and extrachromosomal hereditary determinants, somatic crossing-over(twin spot), changes in chromosome number(genome mutation), chromosomal structural changes(chromosome mutation), or "V-type" position effects.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

DEF

A type of mutation in which one or more nucleotides are inserted into the genome.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
OBS

Record 5 2012-02-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

An individual resulting from mutation(either gene mutation, chromosome mutation, genome mutation or mutation of cytoplasmic hereditary determinants).

OBS

The standard of reference is the so-called wild-type condition, i.e., either the state of organisms as they are found in nature or arbitrarily chosen. Any heritable variation from it which is the result of mutation is a mutant.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Subject field(s)

DEF

Sequence found within the structural genes of HIV-1 and of other complex retroviruses. Multiple INS elements exist within the genome and can act independently; one of the best characterized elements spans nucleotides 414 to 631 in the gag region of HIV-1. The INS elements have been defined by functional assays as elements that inhibit expression posttranscriptionally. Mutation of the RNA elements was shown to lead to INS inactivation and up regulation of gene expression.
