The process of collecting and analysing unconsolidated soil sediments in order to locate geochemical anomalies in the underlying rock and to use these to find ore bodies.

In regional geochemical soil and silt sampling surveys, samples of conventional size are less effective in detecting the dominantly particulate scheelite than are bulk samples of alluvium ... reduced to a heavy mineral concentrate.

In periods of biostasy there is normal vegetation, while in phases of rhexistasy there is dying out or lack of vegetation as a result of soil erosion resulting from climatic changes, tectonic displacement, etc. The period of rhexistasy is characterized by mechanical reworking, whereas biostasy is characterized by chemical decomposition.
