The Canadian Geodetic Survey provides the fundamental reference frame and standards for the measurement of latitude, longitude, elevation and gravity anywhere in Canada and monitors motions of [the] continental landmass in support of geomatics and geoscience. This geospatial reference frame underpins all activities where positions matter, enabling mapping, land surveying, water management and engineering activities in Canada. A growing community of research scientists rely on the program's precise positioning and gravity information to study changes in the Earth. The program is delivered by real-time analysis of global satellite data, supporting client services that enable Canadians to use global navigation satellite systems(e. g. GPS) for precise positioning, including heights above sea-level. 2, record 4, English, - Canadian%20Geodetic%20Survey%20%3A%20Spatially%20Enabling%20Canada

2, record 4, French, - Lev%C3%A9s%20g%C3%A9od%C3%A9siques%20du%20Canada%C2%A0%3A%20Le%20Canada%20%C3%A0%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence%20spatiale

Triangulation Station. - A trigonometrical station, triangulation pillar, trig beacon or trig point is a fixed surveying station for the geodetic surveying and other surveying projects on nearby areas. They are generally known as Trigonometrical stations in North America, trig points in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia and trig beacons in South Africa; triangulation pillar is the more formal term for the concrete columns found in the UK. 2, record 11, English, - triangulation%20station

Trig pillars, or triangulation pillars in full, are concrete pillars usually (but not always) erected on hill or mountain summits. There are several thousand of them in Britain. They were erected by the Ordnance Survey (the government’s mapmaking and surveying agency), mostly in the nineteenth century, as part of a painstaking survey of Britain, and they are the base of Britain’s maps. Each of them represents a meticulously accurate position and elevation. In these days of aerial and satellite data they are falling into disuse but they are likely to be around for several hundred years yet. 9, record 11, English, - triangulation%20station

The National Geodetic Survey, our Nation's first civilian scientific agency, was established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1807 as the Survey of the Coast. Its mission soon included surveys of the interior as the nation grew westward. In 1878 the agency was reorganized and given a new name, the Coast and Geodetic Survey(C&GS), which it maintained until 1970. In 1970 a reorganization created the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) and the National Ocean Service(NOS) was created as a line office of NOAA. To acknowledge the geodetic portion of NOAA mission, the part of NOS responsible for geodetic functions was named the National Geodetic Survey. 1, record 17, English, - National%20Geodetic%20Survey
