1, record 2, French, - effet%20de%20lentille%20gravitationnelle%20faible

Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The inner, visible part of the halo, which has roughly the same diameter as the galactic disk, is occupied by Population II objects, including globular clusters and old, individual stars. Beyond this is a much larger region, called the dark halo or extended halo, containing large amounts of dark matter, the presence of which is revealed by its gravitational effect on the galaxy's rotation. The nature of galactic dark matter is still undetermined but the most popular theory, supported by some recent observations, is that the dark halo is home to vast numbers of small, unseen bodies known as MACHOs. 3, record 4, English, - galactic%20halo

2, record 4, French, - halo%20galactique

GyroTorque Operating Principle. Gyroscopic reaction torque is generated when precessing a spinning rotor. A very common form of gyroscopic reaction is experienced when riding a bicycle, where the front wheel exhibits the properties of a gyroscopic rotor. If, as is too often the case, an off-balance torque is created by gravitational force, the rider intuitively counters the gravitational torque by turning the handle bar, which, in effect, amounts to precessing the rotor-like front wheel. The faster the bicycle is travelling, the greater is the spin of the front wheel and, hence, the smaller is the precession required to counter the off-balance torque. The operational advantages of GyroTorque result from a novel technique of generation and rectification of gyroscopic reaction torque from a rotor as it is applied to an input-independent output shaft. 1, record 5, English, - gyroscopic%20reaction%20torque

Cosmic travellers riding through the ether in their spacecraft might be as misled by mirages as thirsty nomads crossing the desert on camels. The microlensing that makes stars seem brighter has a big brother of an illusion : the so-called gravitational lensing of one entire galaxy's light by another one lying in the way. Rather than just brightening the resulting image, this effect distorts it. That turns out to be extremely useful for seeing dark matter. 1, record 7, English, - gravitational%20lensing
