Annual forage crops are often thought of as supplemental or emergency crops by many livestock producers. Although a high quality perennial forage should be the base forage for livestock producers, annual forages can play an important niche role in a forage system by providing forages in the form of hay, silage, or grazing. 2, record 1, English, - annual%20forage

The development of a grazing system should be flexible and dependent on the livestock producer's goals and resources. Grazing systems are divided into "continuous" or "rotational" stocked systems. Continuous stocking is the grazing of one pasture for a long period... Rotational stocking is where livestock are moved between pastures during the grazing season, concentrating their feeding on one pasture for a few days and then moving them to a new field that is ready to graze. 3, record 3, English, - grazing%20system

For the last three or so years a variant of strip grazing called block grazing has been used with both cows and sheep particularly when going through the winter using a slow rotation. Obviously if the length of rotation is say 40 days; then extra subdivision is needed since the average number of permanent paddocks on most dairy farms is only about 15-20. The extra subdivision is accomplished by using electric fences, but the main feature of the block grazing system is that the areas should be as square as possible. This discourages the cows from aimless walking up and down the fence line which does occur with along narrow strip, and so reduces trampling damage and waste of grass. p. 214, Pastures & Pasture Plants 1973. 1, record 9, English, - block%20grazing
