Grevy's Zebra is now restricted to Ethiopia and Kenya. Most surviving in Ethiopia are in the north-east of Lake Turkana; the Alledeghi plains; the Yabello Sanctuary and around Lake Chew Bahar. In Kenya, Grevy's Zebra occurs in much of its former range : east of the Rift Valley and Lake Turkana, north of Mount Kenya and the Tana River, and east towards western Somalia.... Head and body length 250 to 300 cm. Tail length 38 to 60 cm. WEIGHT 352 to 450 kg. Average life expectancy. Captives have lived up to 22 years(Nowak, 1991). Normal diet. Il existe trois espèces de zèbres, que l'on range dans le genre Equus, de l'ordre des Perissodactylae. Leur nom provient du mot swahili qui signifie «âne rayé». [...] le zèbre de Grévy, Equus grevyi, est, selon certains, le plus beau, le plus rare aussi [...]. Son aire de répartition couvre l'Éthiopie, la Somalie et le Kenya. [...] Le pelage du zèbre de Grévy est orné de bandes verticales étroites, s'incurvant vers le haut des hanches. Ses oreilles sont larges et dressées. Il brait comme un âne. Il n'existe pas de dimorphisme sexuel chez cette espèce. Les mâles comme les femelles peuvent atteindre un poids de 450 kg, ce qui fait de lui le plus grand des équidés sauvages. [...] Le temps de gestation des femelles est, en général, d'un an. Celui de E. grevyi est le plus long : 390 jours. Le zébron, même s'il peut se nourrir d'herbe dès l'âge d'une semaine ne sera sevré que onze mois plus tard.
