Very common on oats growing on soils with pH levels greater than 6.5. Above 7.5, oat crops do very badly primarily due to manganese deficiency which can also occur in barley crops. La tache grise de l'avoine est la conséquence d'une carence en manganèse. Cette maladie se caractérise par la présence de taches irrégulières, grisâtres à beiges habituellement localisées sur la première moitié supérieure du limbe. Les taches peuvent se regrouper, ce qui se traduit par un dessèchement de l'extrémité des feuilles. Ce manque de manganèse peut être la conséquence d'une faible teneur en manganèse dans le sol ou à son oxydation par des microorganismes rendant le manganèse non disponible.
