HAMMER CIRCLE [5 records]

Record 1 2020-11-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Track and Field
CONT

The surface of this interior shall be approximately level and 1.4 - 2.6 cm lower than the upper edge of the rim of the circle.

CONT

The rim of the circle shall be at least 6mm thick and shall be white.

CONT

Another important feature of a glide shot shoe is that the shoe should not be excessively curved from toe to heel. This makes it easier to place the toe against the back of the circle rim. Try that with a hammer specialty and you are likely to foul on top of the rim.

OBS

Throwing events.

DEF

For a team, the earning of one point or more in an end while the rocks on play represent one or more points for the opposite team or while the latter had the hammer or last rock advantage.

CONT

Brier 2004, Canada-Germany game. Canada's skip threw a slow moving rock that glided between the two opponent's guards to then curl around the German rock laying in the 4-foot circle and stop inside the button : a steal of one for Canada, the German skip having not been able to do better with the hammer.

DEF

DEF

Technique in the last part of the follow-through in shot put, hammer and discus throws, used to gain body balance and to avoid fouling by stepping on or outside the circle(i. e. a recovery mechanism following the release of the implement).

CONT

After the shot has left the hand, a quick movement reversing the position of the feet transfers the body weight on to the right foot. An extension of this foot tends to stop the forward motion of the body, and in turn prevents a foul.

OBS

The term "reverse" is most commonly used.

CONT

Technique/tactique - lancers.
