HAMSTER [16 records]

Record 1 2017-05-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
DEF

(Each of) those sites of the body lacking lymphatic drainage and in which antigens or tissue grafts can be placed without evoking an immune response. Examples include the central nervous system, the anterior chamber of the eye, and the cheek pouch of the hamster.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
CONT

A CHO cell [Chinese hamster ovary cell] line with a single copy of the DHFR [dihydrofolate reductase] locus on chromosome Z2 was used to analyze the structure of the amplification target and products subsequent to the initial amplification event. Dramatic diversity in the number and cytogenetic characteristics of DHFR amplicons was observed as soon as eight to nine cell doublings following the initial event.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
CONT

A phospholipid consisting of choline, sphingosine, phosphoric acid, and a fatty acid.

CONT

Both the Golgi and the endosomes have recently been proposed as the main site of SM-synthase [sphingomyelin-synthase], the enzyme responsible for sphingomyelin(SM) biosynthesis. To settle this confusion, we studied the subcellular distribution of SM-synthase in human liver-derived HepG2 and baby hamster kidney BHK-21 cells.

DEF

DEF

A cast which is produced by injecting a hollow organ with plastic, allowing it to polymerize and then corroding the surrounding tissue, and which is used to prepare specimens for scanning electron microscopes. [Source: Cell and Tissue Research, 1984.]

CONT

Table I shows some example measurement made from corrosion casts from rat heart and hamster lung under several different conditions..... While the primary application of vascular corrosion casting has been and likely will remain in the elucidation of the 3-dimensional distribution of vessels in tissue and organs, high quality casts also yield valuable quantitative information about that vasculature.... the corrosion casting method [can] be used to describe or measure the internal volume of any hollow or porous structure or material as long as methods are available to remove the surrounding material and leave the cast intact.

CONT

Kidney glomerulus corrosion cast scanned with confocal microscope.

OBS

Incorporation of marker substances in the casting resin (e.g. isotopes, heavy metals, electron dense materials, photosensitive materials, or fluorescent substances) to enhance quantitative measurements are also being considered in some laboratories.

The responses of the hamster to dietary fat manipulations are in many ways similar to that observed in humans. The lipidaemic effect of a tocotrienol rich fraction(TRF) from palm oil on human trials has not been consistent. In this study, the cholesterolaemic effect of tocotrienols and tocopherols were differentiated by using pure tocotrienols(that were isolated from palm oil fatty acid distillate) and pure commercial tocopherols and squalene.

A mammalian cell expression plasmid, pH beta-Arc, containing the human placenta aromatase complementary DNA was constructed. The prepared plasmid was used to transfect breast cancer cells(MCF-7), noncancerous breast cells,(HBL-100), and Chinese hamster ovary cells by a stable expression method. These constructed aromatase expressing mammalian cell lines will be very useful tools for aromatase inhibitor screening.
