In knowledge communication systems, there is a special module, often called the expert, that contains a representation of the knowledge to be communicated.... The expert module fulfils a double function. On the one hand, it acts as the source for the knowledge to be presented. This includes generating explanations and responses to the student as well as tasks and questions. On the other hand, the expert module serves as a standard for evaluating the student's performance. For this function, it must be able to generate solutions to problems in the same context as the student does so that their respective answers can be compared. 4, record 2, English, - expert%20module

Zone of proximal development is the difference between the child's capacity to solve problems on his own, and his capacity to solve them with assistance. In other words, the actual developmental level refers to all the functions and activities that a child can perform on his own, independently without the help of anyone else. On the other hand, the zone of proximal development includes all the functions and activities that a child or a learner can perform only with the assistance of someone else. The person who intervenes in this scaffolding process could be an adult(parent, teacher, caretaker, language instructor) or another peer who has already mastered that particular function. 1, record 5, English, - zone%20of%20proximal%20development

A sophisticated drag racing weather station will allow you to store data on as many as 256 previous runs and performs an analysis to give you a prediction based on the weather conditions instantly. It can keep and use separate databases for separate vehicles, tracks, or classes. Some of the really sophisticated stations have a prediction deviation function [which] gives a reliability value of the prediction. The Kestrel line of wind meters or anemometers ... in less than 60 seconds, provide the answer to the major spraying season question that haunts producers each morning: "How windy is it?" The 3000 adds humidity, dew point and heat stress index ... . But for an all out weather station you can hold in the palm of your hand, the Kestrel 4000 provides all of this, in addition to wet bulb, altitude, air density and barometric pressure. Most importantly, 250 of these readings can be recorded in the device’s memory and later transferred to the farm computer. ... Michael Naughton of Nielsen Keller-man said the company released the 1000 in 1999 with the intention of it being a tool for sailors and outdoor sports and weather enthusiasts. "Farmers are turning out to be a really big part of our business. The 4000 is really popular with them. Core project of International Geosphere-Biosphere Program. BAHC is an interdisciplinary project combining and integrating expertise from many disciplines, in particular eco-physiology, pedology, hydrology, and meteorology. BAHC in this respect has a transfer function : on the one hand developing techniques and algorithms to provide climatic data needed for hydroecological research, thereby translating the results of the World Climate Research Programme(WCRP) into the scales relevant for studies of changes of the conditions at the land surface, and on the other hand, providing soil-vegetation-atmosphere transfer at larger scales, in particular, the areal pattern of heat and moisture fluxes according to land-surface heterogeneity. BAHC concentrates on investigations at scales where detailed studies of hydroecological processes are feasible in selected areas representing major ecosystems of the world and across boundaries between different ecosystems(ecotones, biome boundaries, etc.). 2, record 11, English, - Biospheric%20Aspects%20of%20the%20Hydrological%20Cycle

The sources of international law. There is innate in man a consciousness of right and wrong, regulating his behaviour towards his fellows, the recognition of the requirement to "co-exist" with them on a reasonable footing. Human society, on the other hand, cannot function without a certain number of binding rules of conduct which must be such as to enable it to avoid bellum omnium contra omnes. These factors are the underlying causes of the birth of law in any human community. The accent may be laid on one or other of these fundamental elements, but the two are always present. These are the "sources" of the law in their philosophical, psychological, sociological connotation, the "material" sources.... The concrete ways and means, the "formal" sources of the law, differ from community to community : they are not the same in secular as in ecclesiastical communities, nor in national as in international society. These "formal" sources,... necessarily reflect the nature and structure of the community concerned : they appear as custom, legislation, bye-laws, national case law, papal bulls, treaties, resolutions of international bodies, etc., as the case may be. There is still a third sense in which the expression "sources" is used in respect of law; in this sense the metaphor does not refer to the basic or to the "formal" origins of legal rules, but to the documents and writings in which they can be found, just as in another field historians work with their "sources". These are not, of course, genuine sources of the law. 2, record 20, English, - sources%20of%20international%20law

We use the term conceptual modelling to refer to an organized exercise of :(i) identifying the relevant system components,(ii) qualitatively identifying the system structure, and(iii) developing a flow diagram of the system. The main purpose for the conceptual model is to explicitly organize the preliminary understanding of ecological structure and function(i. e., components and processes). On the other hand, quantitative modelling is used to refer to the construction and use of mathematical representations of ecological phenomena and relationships. As such, it may involve statistical analyses, simulation modelling, and several other forms of mathematical manipulations of data. 1, record 25, English, - conceptual%20modelling

We emphasize that conceptual modelling and quantitative modelling are not mutually exclusive; in fact, they are often fused into a modelling exercise that progresses from the former into the latter. However, conceptual modelling usually connotes an earlier, qualitative effort at systems understanding, whereas quantitative modelling connotes a later, more detailed numerical exercise. 1, record 25, English, - conceptual%20modelling

The experience of grasping a part. It includes everything from the cognitive understanding of the situation, to the mechanical interaction with the part. In our definition, prehension includes all the processes between the initial desire and the final finished function. For example, the desire begins with a wish to drink coffee. Then, based on experience a grip is chosen, the hand moves to the cup, manipulation occurs, drinking is performed, and the cup is set down again. Thus prehension is more then just the gripping action itself; it involves the complete thought processes from the beginning to the end of the task. 1, record 26, English, - prehension
