DEF

Easily the most dangerous event in rodeo is bull riding. This is so because of the size and ferocity of the adversary. A rodeo bull can sometimes weigh over 2, 500 pounds(1, 130 kg) and nearly always weighs at least a ton. The most common bull used in rodeo is the Brahma,... No spurring or marking is required of the cowboy in bull riding. He holds on to a bull-rope that encircles the animal' s barrel and then is wrapped around the cowboy's hand. The only requirement is that the cowboy not touch anything with his free hand and that he stay aboard for the 10-second ride.

  • Drilling (Machine-Tooling)
DEF

A drilling machine in which a vertical drill moves into the work, which is stationary.

CONT

A drill press is preferable to a hand drill when the location and orientation of the hole must be controlled accurately. A drill press is composed of a base that supports a column, the column in turn supports a table. Work can be supported on the table with a vise or hold down clamps, or the table can be swiveled out of the way to allow tall work to be supported directly on the base. Height of the table can be adjusted with a table lift crank than locked in place with a table lock. The column also supports a head containing a motro. The motor turns the spindle at a speed controlled by a variable speed control dial. The spindle holds a drill chuck to hold the cutting tools(drill bits, center drills, deburring tools, etc.). OBS

Although one finds "bucket" defined as a large handhold and used as a synonym for "jug handle", it is also used to name a large foothold. Some sources define "bucket" as a large hold, thus making the concept for "bucket" broader than "jug handle."

DEF

[a hold used] for balance, to help raise yourself by pulling up on the hold, or to provide various forms of counterpressure.

CONT

Handholds offer maximum security when all fingers are used.

CONT

Handholds vary considerably. The easiest to use are those incut ones that the fingers can curl round and afford a pull; these are often called "jugs" if they are large. Pressure holds are holds where there is no grip as such and one relies on the friction of the rock. They may be sideways. There is also the "pinch grip", where the rock can be squeezed between fingers. A jammed hold(jamming) is when the hand is jammed into a crack for a pull. An undercut hold is one that is upside down, but it can be useful.

OBS

In winter climbing, hand or foot holds may be cut in snow or ice by an axe.

an adjustable stop with a projecting knife or hook that holds a piece of work on the bench.

CONT

Blocking knife.... The blade is forged to an iron bar varying in length from 1 to 4 ft. This bar has a hook at one end, and a handle, often T-shaped, at the other. The hook engages with an eye-bolt fixed to a bench or stool to form a hinge. In operation, one hand holds the wood to be shaped, while the other, by moving the knife up and down, pares away the unwanted wood, using the bar as a lever. The longer [size]... is used by cloggers, brush, and by boot-last and boot-tree makers; the smaller sizes are used for shaping rake tines, tent pegs, wooden spoons, etc.

OBS
