Robotic grasping and manipulation in unknown environments is made difficult by several factors.... To make robots cheaper, lighter, and safer, precision in the accuracy of end-effector position is often sacrificed. This introduces uncertainty in the position of the gripper relative to the object. Robotic grasping theory must account for such uncertainty in order to provide robust and reliable grasping in unstructured environments. One method for dealing with such uncertainty is robotic caging. Unlike an immobilizing grasp, in which the robotic hand grasps an object so as to prevent all motion of the object relative to the hand, a caging grasp only prevents the object from escaping through the fingers, while allowing some motion of the object relative to the hand. 1, record 3, English, - robotic%20caging

Space telerobotics is an inherently complex task, requiring mental visualization skills, fine motor visualization skills, fine motor control, and adhering to procedure and flight rules. Often space telerobotics is accomplished only using video views of the work area, so the robotic arm operator must interpret two dimensional images to create a 3D [three-dimensional] mental model of the environment and their position inside it, all the while being aware of arm kinematics and limitations, avoiding collisions, and following procedural flight rules. To add to the workload, they also control the arm in six degrees of freedom, using separate rotational and translational hand controls, where the movement axes are frequently not aligned with camera views(e. g., the operator views the scene backwards or upside down). 1, record 4, English, - space%20telerobotics

When the "haul in" signal is given on the docking telegraph …, the operator pulls on the slack end of the rope that is wound loosely round the drum of the winch. This tightens the rope slightly on the drum and it grips the surface. The amount of tension on the free end of the rope is multiplied several hundred times and the resulting force is enough to move the entire ship, pulling it into the correct position. The [captain] signals with the docking telegraph or a hand held radio to tell the winch operator what to do and, by heaving in and paying out the ropes at each end of the ship, she can be positioned in exactly the right place regardless of the wind and waves. 1, record 19, English, - docking%20telegraph

How to perform the Smith machine deadlift. First, set up the Smith bar on the floor with the desired weight you want to lift. Walk up to the bar so that your shins are directly against the Smith bar. Squat down towards the bar until your upper thigh is parallel to the floor. Next, grab the bar with a mixed grip with one hand overhand and one hand underhand. Now, drive your hips upward by contracting your quads and glutes. You are attempting to bring the weight upwards as you stand up. As the bar is being lifted off of the floor, begin to straighten your back up so that it is fully erect. This will utilize the muscles in the back. Once your have reached full standing position, slowly lower the weight back toward the floor. 2, record 48, English, - Smith%20machine%20deadlift

Extradition of the citizens of the requested state. Another question, which often arises, is whether a citizen of the requested state should be handed over for trial in respect of commission of an offence in the requesting State. The relevant treaty of extradition may contain provisions in this regard, but generally the provisions of treaties are silent on this question. It therefore becomes necessary for each government to decide whether it would extradite its own nationals even though there may exist a treaty between the requesting and the requested states. It may be argued, on the one hand, that if a state is competent under its own laws to try and punish its nationals for crimes committed abroad, there is no need to surrender them to the requesting State, as they can be dealt with adequately in the requested State. On the other hand, it may be pointed out that the courts of the country where the crime is committed would be in a better position to deal with the matter since witnesses would be available more readily there and it may also be necessary to have local inspection of the place of the offence. 2, record 61, English, - requested%20State

The inside hand reaches up and grasps the axe head in the self-arrest position. By pulling down on the anchored axe, the climber steps up to a new in-balance position. Figure 1... shows the principle of laminography, a synchronized motion between an X-ray source and a detector generating an geometric focus plane and forms an X-ray slice image of that. Objects in the focal plane are always projected at the same position of the detector. On the other hand, those that are not in the focal plane are projected to other positions of the detector and thus are blurred as the source and detector move in a complete circle. Thus the "noise" from the materials above and below the focal plane is eliminated when all the images on the detectors are overlapped. 2, record 83, English, - laminography

When the wrist is held in the neutral position, a moderate blow can be applied to the palm of the hand without causing pain and discomfort. When the wrist is in the neutral position, it can absorb the force best.
