As SAR [synthetic aperture radar] is a coherent imaging system two forms of change detection may be considered, namely incoherent and coherent change detection. Incoherent change detection identifies changes in the mean backscatter power of a scene typically via an average intensity ratio change statistic. Coherent change detection on the other hand, identifies changes in both the amplitude and phase of the transduced imagery using the sample coherence change statistic.

CONT

Wildlife harvesting.... Wildlife is harvested for many different purposes. Sport hunting usually takes a sample of the population during a restricted season and often with a restriction placed on the sex and age of the harvest. Harvesting for sport is a complex activity whose product is as much a quality experience as it is meat or trophies. On the other hand the purpose of commercial hunting for food is simply to harvest a product such as meat and skins.

Where there are no automatic samplers, samples are taken by hand scoops or dipper samplers. These are dipped regularly into the moving stream of grain to obtain a sample representative of a total parcel. Where grain is stationary, such as in carlots or bins, a special sampling probe is used to obtain grain from different levels and at different points in the container.

CONT

Biolab is a single-rack multi-user facility that will support biological research on small plants, small invertebrates, microorganisms, animal cells, and tissue cultures. It will include an incubator equipped with centrifuges in which the preceding experimental subjects can be subjected to controlled levels of accelerations. Containers can be handled automatically by the Biolab Handling Mechanism. Independent analysis instruments are available for supporting experiment sample test analyses. A capability for the visualisation of images is at hand. The atmospheric environment of the Experiment Container may be adjusted during centrifuge operations. Automatic temperature-controlled and ambient temperature stowage units are available for storing Experiment Container samples. A Biolab glovebox provides a clean, controlled and enclosed environment for manual operations on Experiment Container samples. The glovebox, working under negative pressure, pre-empts any possible contamination to the laboratory atmosphere.

CONT

The grade assigned to a parcel of grain is only as representative of the quality of that grain as the sample taken for grading. It is, therefore, very important that the sample be truly representative of the complete parcel. Most grain officially inspected on entry or discharge from a terminal elevator is officially sampled by an automatic sampler installed and operated under supervision of the Commission's Inspection Division. The automatic sampler is a mechanical device that takes a representative sample from a stream of grain moving on a belt or through a spout. Where there are no automatic samplers, samples are taken by hand scoops or dipper samplers.

CONT

DEF

A sample consisting of dozens to hundreds of spots (typically larger than 1mm in size), aligned in an array format.

CONT

Simply put, an array is an orderly arrangement of samples. An array experiment can make use of common assay systems such as microplates or standard blotting membranes, and can be created by hand or make use of robotics to deposit the sample. In general, arrays are described as macroarrays or microarrays, the difference being the size of the sample spots. Macroarrays contain sample spot sizes of about 300 microns or larger and can be easily imaged by existing gel and blot scanners, such as Storm, FluorImager, or Personal Densitometer. The sample spot sizes in microarrays are typically about 200 microns in diameter or smaller and these arrays usually contains thousands of spots.

CONT
