The machines considered thus far are fixed and deterministic in that their responses to a particular input from a given initial state are always the same. Also, the input sequences that we have been applying to these machines have always had a particular representation associated with them....... the output is determined by the program and set of data applied, where the same program and the same data always give the same output. A stochastic automation or probabilistic machine on the other hand, has an output that is not necessarily the same for every application of the input. 1, record 1, English, - stochastic%20automation

Traditionally, piano benches are longer and wider. They’re designed to accommodate duets, offering ample space for two players to sit side by side comfortably. Piano benches tend to be sturdier and heavier, providing stability during intense practice sessions or performances.... On the other hand, piano stools are typically smaller and more compact. They may feature a cushioned or unpadded seat and are often lighter in weight. Piano stools come in various designs, with some featuring a single central leg and others boasting a set of legs closer together. 2, record 2, English, - piano%20stool

In traditional applications, wheel temperature detectors are generally set to alarm for elevated wheel temperatures above a predetermined threshold. Such elevated temperatures may result from defective brake rigging or brake control valves, applied hand brakes, or various other brake system defects. In recent years, railroads have begun looking for temperatures considerably lower than the average and using existing technology to monitor wheel temperatures on trains that have the brakes applied since low wheel temperature would give an indication of an inoperative or ineffective brake. 3, record 3, English, - wheel%20temperature%20detector

In the early years of the twentieth century many... ceramic manufacturers... adopted the technique of high-temperature firing and set up small design studios specifically for the use of artist-potters. Pottery designers thus benefited from having factory facilities and technical expertise close at hand, while in exchange the manufacturer gained an on-the-spot source of original design ideas. 1, record 6, English, - pottery%20designer

The second book of the set of works by the CIDECT [Committee International for the Development and the Study of Tubular construction] under the general title "Construction with Hollow Steel Sections" is dedicated to phenomena of instability : buckling, distortion, spreading. Because of the shape of its section and the particularly favourable distribution of matter in the straight section, a hollow profile, of circular or rectangular shape, behaves distinctly better than an open profile section under the demands of compression. In remaining within the limits of the relation of the diameter or the width of side divided by the thickness of partition, given in this dimensioning guide, the local hollow profile distortion can be disregarded. On the other hand, the resistance to spreading is, in practice, not verified because hollow profiles possess a distinctly larger polar rigidity than open section profiles. 1, record 15, English, - open%20section%20profile

2, record 15, French, - profil%20ouvert

Squat down towards the bar until your upper thigh is parallel to the floor. Next, grab the bar with a mixed grip with one hand overhand and one hand underhand. Now, drive your hips upward by contracting your quads and glutes. You are attempting to bring the weight upwards as you stand up. As the bar is being lifted off of the floor, begin to straighten your back up so that it is fully erect. This will utilize the muscles in the back. Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). The OTCM consists of a set of parallel retractable jaws, which serve to grip payloads and tools. Each OTCM is also equipped with a retractable motorized socket wrench to mate and demate mechanisms on-orbit, as well as lights and a black and white camera. Dextre lower body is equipped with a pair of pan/tilt colour cameras that allow astronauts aboard the ISS, and engineers on the ground, to monitor the task, which is out of direct eyesight. 1, record 40, English, - orbital%20replacement%20unit%2Ftool%20changeout%20mechanism

1, record 40, French, - changeur%20d%27outils%20et%20d%27unit%C3%A9s%20rempla%C3%A7ables%20sur%20orbite

Mobile work platforms come in various shapes, sizes, and price categories, including lightweight, one-man push-around models; manually propelled or towable scissors-type units; and large, self-propelled booms that reach out 80 ft or more. The sliding-frame elevating platform is the simplest, most economical version of a one-man push-around towable unit. It consists of a railed platform affixed to a frame that slides up or down on a vertical mast set on a mobile base. The platform can be raised or lowered mechanically by a hand crank winch and cable suspension system. Or, the units can be powered up and down hydraulically or by compressed air. Power sources can be AC or DC electric motors or plant air. 1, record 57, English, - push%2Daround

The experience of grasping a part. It includes everything from the cognitive understanding of the situation, to the mechanical interaction with the part. In our definition, prehension includes all the processes between the initial desire and the final finished function. For example, the desire begins with a wish to drink coffee. Then, based on experience a grip is chosen, the hand moves to the cup, manipulation occurs, drinking is performed, and the cup is set down again. Thus prehension is more then just the gripping action itself; it involves the complete thought processes from the beginning to the end of the task. 1, record 60, English, - prehension
