The rod puppet or stick puppet is supported by a rod held in one hand, while the other hand operates the rods attached to the puppet's hand. Rod puppets are full-length figures supported by a rod running inside the body to the head. These figures are manipulated from below; separate thin rods move the hands and the legs when necessary, allowing the individual joints to move in a relatively natural manner making the figure appear lifelike. 1, record 4, English, - rod%20puppet

Counting coup was a relatively harmless act of bravery and war honor of the highest grade. Any blow struck against the enemy counted as a coup, but the most prestigious acts included touching an enemy warrior, with the hand or with a coup stick. The term is of French origin from the noun coup(pronounced/ku/) which means a hit, a blow or a strike. The expression can be seen as referring to "counting strikes". Coups were recorded by notches in the coup stick, or by feathers in the headdress of a warrior who was rewarded with them for an act of bravery. 1, record 5, English, - coup%20stick

1, record 5, French, - b%C3%A2ton%20%C3%A0%20coup

This layer is not self-supporting. Traditionally it is used to improve handling properties(M&M's melt in your mouth, not in your hand) or to prevent moisture loss... It can also be used as an adhesive to seasonings on snack foods..., as a glaze on baked goods... and to increase shelf life and reduce the need of packaging material. The shelf life is extended, because the film acts as a barrier to moisture and/or oil and/or vapor transmission. An edible coating has to have good eating properties : acceptable color, odor, taste, flavor and texture or be undetectable. An other requirement is that it must adhere to the food, but(in most cases) does not stick to packaging material. 3, record 12, English, - edible%20coating

Damp snow usually occurs when the temperature is around 0°C. Damp snow sticks to the road surface and is compacted by traffic. If there is a partial thaw, traffic creates ruts in the compacted snow. When it freezes again, "rails of ice" are formed, making the road impassable. This phenomenon is easy to detect. Snow falls in large flakes and crunches underfoot or under the tyres. 4, record 14, English, - moist%20snow

The Aztec word for a spear throwing stick device. 4, record 17, English, - atlatl
Record number: 17, Textual support number: 1 OBS
This projectile propulsion device preceded the bow and arrow. In general, a wooden or bone stick or board with a hand grip at one end and a spur or hook at the other end. The atlatl is used as an extension of the arm in throwing a spear or dart. The spear shaft is socketed and fits into the spur or hook of the Atlatl. Essentially the Atlatl lengthens the length of the spear thrower's arm and with loaded, spring-like, motion can provide the benefit of greater force and distance over that of the hand thrown spear. It is hypothesized that sometimes a stone weight(s)(a. k. a. : Bannerstone, Birdstone, Boatstone) was attached to the Atlatl to provide better balance or to load the device with a spring or bending effect or to diminish the "whoosh" noise created during the throwing process. 4, record 17, English, - atlatl

1, record 32, French, - tir%20revers
